Ch. Cissac. 2022 "The Best in 40 Years" From $32*

Chateau Cissac
Haut Medoc, Bordeaux
2022 may well be the best vintage since the legendary 1982! A warm, perfectly ripe vintage of supremely healthy grapes, giving a vintage of deeply concentrated wines. The reds have an astonishing level of freshness and finesse according to most commentators. Chateau Cissac, that I have been importing for almost 20 years, is consistently and pleasingly VERY high in quality and value, and that is in a “normal” year; imagine how great it is in 2022! Cheers, Randall.
Over the last decade and a half, we have offered a great pre-arrival deal on Cissac every year, and we still have some clients who have never missed it! Lucky them, great foresight and savvy buying we say, for this is one of the classic "cellaring and drinking" classy bargains of the wine world.
“This is the 40th year I have tasted barrel samples in Bordeaux, but I have never come across anything like the 2022 vintage...For me personally, it sets a new benchmark for Bordeaux after my first reference vintage for the region from barrel, 1982.” - James Suckling

“Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Aromatic nose with good concentration and ripe fruit, blackcurrants, blackberries, ripe plums. On the palate well-structured with firm yet ripe tannins, elegant fruit and discreet spiciness. Very good length.” 92pts - Markus Del Monego
Cissac sits on a small gravel plateau just 5kms or so from Mouton, Lafite and Cos d'Estournel. The 2022 wine, with its high extract (IPT) score of 94, is made up of 50% Cabernet sauvignon, 43% merlot and the balance malbec and petit verdot, all aged in 25% new oak. The vines are mature (34yo average) and as you would expect from the location and the perfect vintage, this is a wine that can be cellared for almost as long as you would want. Cissac however, is always a fleshy and well-balanced red that can be served youngish with rich and hearty fare.
“This Haut-Médoc stalwart continues its subtle stylistic evolution towards more charm and finesse with the 2022 Cissac, a strong effort evocative of graphite, tobacco, smoke, cassis and violets mingled with well-integrated hints of oak. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, it's classy and vibrant, concluding with a slightly austere finish. This long-lived red is a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 5.5% Petit Verdot and the rest Malbec.” 89-91+pts - Yohan Castaing, The Wine Advocate
