It’s aged in older 228lt barrels and one small ceramic egg, but the aim is to have absolutely no new oak influence. It’s made, blended if necessary and aged with long-term cellaring in mind. The 2020 received 100/100 and sold in a flash, but the 2022 is set to be better; more intense and more “relaxed”. 95 points – Stuart Pigott, James Suckling

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0561/1261/1508/files/2019_Thivin_Cote_de_Brouilly_Les_Sept_Vignes_c1400172-a952-40c1-8d6e-2f5cb230162e.jpg?v=1717045731
pre-arrival-2023-domaine-gaget-morgon-cote-du-py-750ml-bottle
2023 Domaine Gaget Morgon Côte Du Py 750ml Bottle

A ripe and expressive red with tea, blackberries, red cherries and dried herbs on the nose. Gamay comes from the estate vines and the newer plantings on the Bindarra site. As has been the case in past, an inclusion of pinot noir (10%) for seasoning. Some whole bunches in the wild ferment. Two weeks on skins.

A frisky number set more in the nouveau zone than some of the more concentrated and layered releases of this wine. Big appeal though, all the crisp, red cherry, rose hip tea, white strawberry, raspberry ripple ice cream, pot pourri red fruits and florals. Dashes of clove, a shaving of truffle, some dried herbs and undergrowth there too. Very crunchy and perky to taste, if not just a little bit nervy and then skeletal and a touch orangey through the finish. Exuberant, thirst-quenching style, and one to drink in vigorous youth. Sorrenberg does a fun one.
