The vineyard was established in 1995 and Michael says that the fruit was ostensibly “lost” interstate until new Victorian owners took over the vineyard in spring 2021. This fragrant, stoney, gently spicy Chardonnay has delicious, subtle fruit complexity of lemon, mandarin and yellow plum. It is, of course, youthful and vigorous, with creamy texturtal mouthfeel that builds power, drive and austerity for a long finish. It is fermented in barrels spontaneously, and matured in said barrels of which 20% are new (surprising, because this gets totally lost within the wine). The 2024 is a beautiful Quartz Chardonnay. It is already showing remarkable complexity, with cashew, fig, flint, cream, spice, grapefruit and orange blossom evident. The palate is concentrated, intense, mouth filling, textured, chalky, dry, harmonious and very long.
