2021 Narjoux Normand Mercurey 1er Cru 'Clos des Montaigu' 750Ml Bottle

This 1er Cru comes from the same slope as, and close to the 1er Cru Clos du Roi, and as Jasper Morris reminds us, any vineyard with the word ‘Roi (King)’ in its name is historically a great one!
Deep, dark, ripe and lifted in its bouquet, this has some “mature vinee depth and sappiness” (the vines are all around 40 yo) and ethereal notes in the complex aromas. The palate is rife with blue fruits, floral and spice inflections and the beautiful balance belies a wine of this cheap price. About 50% whole bunch, used to add herbal, sappy / amaro notes and "freshen" the generously ripe palate. The oak is balanced, well hidden in the background and the impressive finish goes on and on. Some cellar time would be beneficial, but to drink it now, with a decent decant, and some robust food would be very pleasurable. Cheers, Randall
