Limestone & schist; 14% alc, 70% whole bunch, 795 bottles made
Vineyard: Polygon No. 3 is just 0.274 hectares in size and contains approximately 200 vines. Working with terroir specialist, Pedro Parra, we identified this polygon to be unique in its limestone content. There is shallow red brown earth over deep chalky sedimentary limestone which contains fractured schist and the limited presence of iron. NASAA certified organic and biodynamic.
Winemaking: 1471kg of Polygon 3 fruit was handpicked and delivered to the winery on the 15th of March. 70% of the fruit remained as whole bunches and was hand bucketed into concrete tulip, with the remainder destemmed. P3 spent a total of 27 days on skins before basket pressing and maturation in concrete egg until bottling in August 2023.

“The 2022 Ex Libris Polygon 3 Grenache is richer and more concentrated than the Ex Libris Polygon 2 Grenache tasted beside it, which is a very affirming realization in a project where dirt defines the outcome of the wine. This is laden with fleshy black cherries, orange zest, boysenberry and mulberry (at the height of the season); there's also a Moroccan spice character there, or is it cocoa dust... a complex wine. Again, this leans on its fine mineral structure for shape; the tannins are a very fine expression of what is possible with earlier picking and the absence of oak. I'd love to see this as an old wine. I bet it gains truffle/black pudding/enoki qualities.” 94+ points! - Erin Larkin, Robert Parker The Wine Advocate
(N.B.: at the time this was part of an ‘ex-libris’ labelled line-up that Amelia and Pedro tasted with Erin Larkin; this wine has since been released under the Polygon label)
