This vineyard is adjacent to the very famous (and expensive) Ch. Pavie. This small 10ha estate has been owned by the Brun family since 1571! The vineyard (with approx. 30yo vines) is in the north-west of the appellation and enjoys a southerly exposition that helps consistent ripeness. It's almost unbelievable that for this price, you can buy a hand-picked, single estate, well-made Bordeaux from such a prestigious area! This is 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, in a ripe and quite supple style, but with great richness and depth. It possesses some blood/iodine character with cassis, plum, damp earth, fresh berries and Asian spice undertones. It shows well, the suppleness and almost 'Burgundian' perfume that led some old-time wine merchants to jokingly say that St. Emilion was halfway between the Medoc and Burgundy! It is made in a fairly traditional way and is aged 60% in large vats, 10% new oak barrels and 30% 1yo barrels.
