THE WONDERFULLY SEDUCTIVE 2023 VINTAGE
This vintage has produced a set of reds that are wonderfully seductive, with gorgeous fruit, fresh, bright acidities, fine silky tannins and beautiful balance.
‘Looking at 2023, this is another solid vintage for the Southern Rhône, producing a bevy of ripe yet not excessive, pure, charming wines with loads to love. ...the 2023s are less marked by the sun (than 2022) and have slightly darker aromatics, medium to full-bodied richness, a soft, plump, elegant style, and beautiful overall balance … the wines shine for their balanced, layered, seductive style.’ Jeb Dunnuck
THE HIGHLIGHTS
‘‘The 2023 Chateauneuf from Clos des Papes is exquisite, wafting from the glass with a captivating bouquet of sweet red berries, iris, dark cherries, menthol, blood orange and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and textured, it’s denser than usual, with a more pronounced structure and a lovely, fleshy core of fruit. Concluding with an ethereal, saline and weightless finish, this is a strong candidate for wine of the vintage - one that should evolve with grace over the coming years to attain a likely perfect score.’

‘The 2023 Clos du Caillou Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Réserveis a compelling marriage of elegance and power. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, peonies, crushed strawberries and exotic spices, it is medium- to fullbodied, round and juicy, with an enveloping core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, lively and delicate finish. A blend of 60% Grenache Noir and 40% Mourvèdre, matured for 14 months in a mix of used barrels (40%) and large foudres, this is not the most extroverted wine in the range, but it is undoubtedly one destined for the cellar.’ 97 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

2022 Diletto Westgate Syrah Offer: $52 | 6 Pack: $47
'We're only two wines in – last year's Westgate Syrah was the inaugural release – but already it seems as though we have a new star of Australian wine on our hands.'

Diletto, an Italian word meaning ‘to take pleasure’, is a new label from Giant Step’s winemaker Melanie Chester and Mulline’s Ben Mullen (and respective partners)... There are plans to expand the range to single-vineyard shiraz wines from other great sites in Australia, too. -PHILIP RICH, Halliday Wine Comapnion
