LAST BOTTLES FROM THE CELLAR

‘…hold their own with the very best of the region. The wines combine power and elegance with a level of virtuosity matched by few in the region…’ The Wine Advocate

'Azelia remains one of the undiscovered jewels in Barolo.' Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Some of the oldest and rarest vintages are now down to just a fewbottles  remaining. Each wine has been matured at the Azienda, shipped in temperature controled containers, and stored in our cellars since arrival in Australia. All are available for immediate delivery or collection. This is an opportunity to secure beautifully aged Barolo at its peak.

AZELIA
Azelia farms 16 hectares across Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d’Alba and Montelupo. South and south-west facing vineyards on calcareous clay soils produce wines that balance structure, perfume and restraint. In the cellar, tradition leads the way, with long fermentations, maturation exclusively in large neutral botti.

I have been enamoured with the Azelia wines since my first visit to the Scavino family's pristine cellars well over a decade ago. Luigi and his son, Lorenzo, are obsessive about obtaining ripe bunches that are as perfect as possible - this is the foundation of their impressive and honest wine making. They only accept grapes from vines over 35yo for Azelia Barolo  This admirable insistence is married perfectly with their sympathetic vinification (including a non-reliance on new/small-format oak) and their excellently sited holdings in the great crus. These are all reasons for greatness generally, but the Scavino family bring an 'X-factor' that makes their Azelia wines greater than the sum of their parts.
'One of the major goals of the modern school of Barolo was to make wines that were approachable young, but that could also age. In my opinion there are three producers who consistently achieved that goal at a high level; Luciano Sandrone, Elio Altare and Luigi Scavino of Azelia. Of these growers, Scavino is the least well known, and because of that, his wines remain favorably priced.' Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2016 Azelia Barolo Ceretta RRP: $340 | Offer: $295
'Two thousand sixteen is an extraordinary vintage full of tremendous wines. Perhaps more importantly, average quality is exceptionally high. In short, it is hard to go wrong with Barolo in 2016.' Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2015 Azelia Barolo Margheria RRP: $296 | Offer:$251
Exotic aromas of watermelon, plum and flowers with hints of stones. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Racy and refined. Randall
'This is a very pretty set of wines from the Scavino family. The 2015s spent 45-50 days on the skins, with submerged cap maceration following the alcoholic fermentation. [..] In tasting, the 2015s are quite delicate, with striking aromatic presence.' Antonio Galloni, Vinous
At the top, the best 2014 Barolos are thrilling. Acidities are high and the wines pulse with energy. The best 2014 Barolos are mesmerizing, uber-classic wines built for the cellar.

2014 Azelia Barolo San Rocco RRP: $285 | Offer:$223

'I first tasted the 2014 Azelia Barolos in November of that year, right after harvest. At the time, they had tremendous energy and searing intensity. Time has softened some of the edges, but the wines remain just as exciting as they were back then.'
93 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Luigi and Lorenzo Scavino have turned out a fabulous set of 2013s.The wines have striking balance in the refined, contemporary style that has defined these wines for some time. Azelia remains one of Barolo's hidden gems.
2013 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco RRP: $312 | Offer: $278
'...one of the most gracious and delicate wines I have ever tasted from this site. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, mint, cranberry and white pepper give the 2013 its distinctive high-toned personality. Moreover, the firm, searing tannins that are so typical of this site are remarkably polished. Expect an aromatic, perfumed Barolo built on grace more than power.' 93 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2013 Azelia Barolo San Rocco RRP: $312 | Offer: $287
Another highlight in this range, the 2013 Barolo San Rocco is utterly beguiling. The bouquet alone is striking, but it is the wine's total balance that is most appealing today. [..] Dark cherry, tobacco, menthol, licorice and sweet spices give the San Rocco much of its exotic personality.' 95 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2013 Azelia Barolo Margheria RRP: $312 | Offer: $287
'....shows its typically high-toned, aromatic profile. Scents of lavender, sage, mint, leather and earthiness meld into a core of dark stone fruits. Veins of bright acidity and salinity give the flavors an extra kick of brightness on the finish. The relatively high-altitude of this site and the limestone-rich soils yield a brilliant, salivating Barolo. The Margheria was aged in cask.' 95 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

'Father and son team Luigi and Lorenzo Scavino have done a marvelous job with their 2010 Barolos, which are some of the very finest wines I have ever tasted here.'
Antonio Galloni, Vinous
2010 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco RRP: $351 | Offer:$319
'Azelia's 2010 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is incredibly polished in this vintage. Dried roses, crushed berries, tobacco, mint and spices are woven together in a fabric of nearly indescribable class and elegance. The ferrous notes and massive tannins typical of this Barolo are nearly completely covered with layers of deeply expressive, perfumed nuances that captivate all the senses. This is a super-classic feeling Bricco Fiasco from Azelia. I never thought I would describe a Bricco Fiasco Barolo as seductive, but Azelia's 2010 is that, and a lot more.' 97 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2003 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco RRP: $246 | Offer: $217
'Azelia's 2003 Barolo Bricco Fiasco has aged impeccably. [..] Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, licorice and menthol all blossom in a gorgeous Barolo... There are no hard tannins, angular contours or oxidative signs of any kind. Sweet floral and tobacco notes add nuance on the finish. This is a great showing from Azelia, one of the most underappreciated grower estates in Piedmont.' 93 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2001 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco RRP: $482 | Offer:$411
'The 2001 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is one of the most impressive wines in this ten-year retrospective of the 2001 Baroli. The Bricco Fiasco remains vibrant, fresh and beautifully delineated from start to finish. Bright flowers, ripe red cherries, mint and iron flow onto the palate in this gorgeous, totally impeccable Barolo. The 2001 doesn't taste or feel that much different than it did as a young wine. There is plenty of energy and focus for the 2001.' 94 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2000 Azelia Barolo RRP: $179 | Offer:$161
'This was a great vintage with excellent ripeness and acidity. The 200 is now in a beattiful mature spot, with roses, crushed berries, nice leather,  tobacco, mint and spices are woven together in a tapastry of enjoyable excellence. There are rust and iodine notes with firm tannins typical of this Barolo maker.' Randall

2024 Single Site Soave from Pieropan
One of Soave's most revered estates, Pieropan has been setting the benchmark for this often-overlooked Italian white for generations.

2024 Calvarino RRP: $69 | Offer: $64
Sourced from volcanic basalt, Calvarino delivers a clean, mineral-driven character — a classically styled Soave with delicate aromatics, best enjoyed while young. As Pieropan's founding vineyard, it holds a special place in the estate's history.

2024 La Rocca RRP: $91 | Offer: $84
La Rocca, the more celebrated of the pair, draws from an uncommon limestone terroir that lends the wine a fuller body and greater textural depth. Perched on the slopes of Monte Rocchetta hill, the vineyard takes its name from the ancient fortress that stands watch over the town of Soave. Twelve months of (large) barrel ageing adds layers of complexity, and the wine rewards those patient enough to cellar it.
