NEW RELEASE | 2024 Hurley Vineyard

‘The medium-bodied wines are of exceptional standard and among the best we have made.  They are pure, well structured and express elegance and finesse, and have exceptional terroir expression. We think we have made quintessential Hurley Vineyard wines this vintage, both as to the Estate blend and the benchmark single vineyard wines.  They all have moderate alcohol, bright natural acidity and inherent balance. The down side is that the quantities of the wines are very low.’

2024 Estate Pinot Noir
Offer: $79

"The Estate is made from selected barrels of wine from Lodestone, Hommage and Garamond and is intended to express the generic terroir of Hurley Vineyard as a whole. This is mid-garnet and has a heady and pristine nose of black cherries and pomegranate with the perfume of roses and vanilla supported by a little earth underneath. The medium bodied palate is super silky and clean with flavours of cherries and spice that are focussed and penetrating rather than robust and bold. The tannins are very fine and, in structure, this wine is well framed rather than tightly bound. The racy natural acidity drives the wine along a straight line from front to back towards a flaring, long finish of black cherries and dark spice. 25% new oak. Alc/vol 13.2%. To 2035." - Kevin Bell, Winemaker

2024 Lodestone Pinot Noir
$103 | Offer: $99

"Also mid-garment but a bit deeper, the nose giving up a layered and complex blend of black cherries and mulberries with undertones of earth and mushroom and overtones of violets. The palate has intense flavours of black cherries, cassis and blood plums with the same earthy, mushroomy notes. The beautiful French oak is evident but not overly so and will integrate in a little time. Also silky due to its ultra-fine tannins (one quality of the vintage), while the natural acidity (another quality) gives the wine energy and brightness and carries it through to a seemingly endless finish of raspberries and dark spice. 25% new oak. Alc/vol 13.2%. To 2040."

2024 Hommage Pinot Noir
$103 | Offer: $99

"Mid-garnet too but otherwise expressing a different personality to the others. It has a complex savoury nose of damson plums and red cherries enveloped in lavender and sage. The palate has the primary flavours of wine gums and jubes but these are balanced with excellent acidity and herbaceousness so that the overall effect is one of sapid and savoury complexity. Very long and silky, with a tight but not rigid structure and firm rolling tannins. Fascinating and distinctive. 25% new oak. Alc/vol 13.4%. To 2040."  - Kevin Bell, Winemaker

2024 Garamond Pinot Noir
$126 | Offer: $112

"Mid-garnet with a complex and etherial bouquet of cherries and raspberries infused with the perfume of roses and honeysuckle.  A bouquet in which to lose oneself. Everything in the palate is a step up here. Powerful flavours of black cherries, cassis and dark spice fill the mouth in a way that exudes elegance and finesse. The texture is slick and silky due to the ultra-fine tannins while the body of the wine is dressed in beautiful oak that here too will integrate over time. Structure tick. Acidity tick. Length tick. Garamond was 26 years old in 2024 and it shows in the wine. It is losing fat and gaining complexity and tightness, as are the wines of Lodestone and Hommage. 25% new oak. Alc/vol 13.2%. To 2045." - Kevin Bell, Winemaker

2023 Azelia Dolcetto d’Alba ‘Bricco dell’Oriolo'
$43 | Clearance: $28 | 6-Pack $25

Single-vineyard dolcetto from the Montelupo Albese region of Piedmont. Instead of a "lesser" site in Barolo (as many producers have) Azelia has the magnificently well-sited 2.1 hectare, south-facing, 600masl Bricco dell'Oriolo, a site that holds special familial value for winemaker Luigi Scavino and his mother. Bright and intense red fruits with a subtle floral character that lends interest to this incredibly drinkable wine. Silky but firm structure. Reeks of Piedmonte. Looks a little like Nebbiolo in it's tannic structure. This is the stuff they drink every day in Piedmonte. Drink now, drink soon and drink up! Randall

2021 Azelia Langhe Nebbiolo
$49 | Clearance: $39 | 6-Pack: $35

Brilliant, vibrant hue, with an inviting bouquet of violets and fresh florals. On the palate, it’s refreshingly juicy, bursting with the essence of red fruits—cherry, strawberry, and currant. The light body is complemented by elegant, fine tannins that lead into a long, fruit-forward finish.
This is an effortlessly drinkable wine, embodying the spirit of Langhe’s Barolo region, and a delightful introduction to Nebbiolo’s charm. Randall
