'One thing is certain – 2016 is a stunning vintage.' Matthew Jukes
The Cissac estate borders St. Estephe to the north and Pauillac to the south. It's a stone's throw from Mouton. It's a reliable great bargain to drink and cellar. We have been importing and selling this lovely cabernet / merlot blend from adjacent to the Bordeaux dress-circle (on this pre-arrival basis) for over 15 years! Cheers, Randall
'This impressive, ripe wine is full of tannins and generous black fruits. Its structure and concentration both promise a long-term future, with the weight coming from full-bodied fruitiness. It will be ready to drink after 2025.' 93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
'A tight red with currant and plum character, a medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Another solid red from here.' 90-91 Points - James Suckling
2023 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon - 99 Points!
RRP: $155 | Offer: $149
No doubt many winelovers have been eagerly awaiting this wine, one of the last of Margaret River's big guns from the stunning 2023 vintage. This brilliant Cabernet saw all parcels harvested fermented separately in small open fermenters. Maturation was in French oak barriques, 15% new. The final blend included 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep maroon with a magenta edge, there is such power and finesse in this wine. Balance, length and structure are all world class. A take-me-now-Lord wine if ever there was one. The great 2023 vintage strikes again. Is this the best wine Moss Wood has ever made? It certainly must come very close. The nose reveals aromas of cassis, mulberries, plums, charcuterie, cigar boxes and blackberries. The structure is seamless through to the silkiest of tannins. There is great length and persistence here and the balance is knife-edge. If you doubt me as to the brilliant quality of this wine, please see if you can find a wine from Bordeaux at this price which comes close to this quality. Then we'll talk. This is just a cracker. Thirty years standing on its head. 99 Points - Ken Gargett
2024 Prinz Hendelberg (1er Cru - Erste Lagen) Riesling Kabinett
RRP: $61| Offer: $54.90
This is one of the best ever Prinz Kabs! 9% alcohol is no surprise, but the mind-blowing, explosively intense peach and nectarine fruit is, and the dry finish is long and sublibe.
From a high-altitude section of the Hendelberg site and has a good freshening 9 g/l of acidity to match the relatively “lowish” 45 g/l of residual sugar. "This is the first time we have made a Kabbi with this low RS and a higher acidity and we are really happy with the results." says Fred. This is a riot of nectarine, passionfruit, fresh herbs and peach; juicy, ripe and sweet. There is some enticing fresh mint, lemon and lime fruit and that very delicious drying minerality giving great drive and vitality. This is a gold standard / benchmark. Randall.
'This really radical riesling Kabinett has gigantic racy acidity and incredibly precise aromas of crisp pears, white peaches and Asian pears. Then comes the extremely focused, sleek and light-bodied palate that’s so fresh it could wake the dead. Hang onto your hat for the dazzlingly original finish. Very limited production from this producer’s highest-altitude parcel in this high-altitude site.'
96 Points - Stuart Pigott, James Suckling
2019 Prinz Doosberg GG (Grand Cru)
RRP: $129 | Offer: $69
A powerful GG (Grand Cru) from Fred Prinz in the Rhinegau. Doosberg is Prinz’s closest site to the Rhine and also the lowest in altitude, so it makes Prinz’s most opulent and richest wine. The small amount of grapes are given a single night's skin-contact maceration, and then pressed and fermented using pied de cuve in steel tanks. This is a complex crazy wine with rose petal, fresh herb elements, yellow orchard fruits, almond meal, doughy yeast-lees character and intense lime juice, lemongrass with lemon pith. At this no-brainer price, we aren't expecting these to be available for long! Cheers, Randall
