Burgundy's Most Improved Maison Albert Bichot - Inc. Big Name Grand Crus

Albert Bichot was established in 1831, the current custodian being 6th generation Alberic Bichot who took over in 1996. During his time as owner, Alberic has gradually acquired six exceptional vineyards (inc. Grand and 1er Cru) in some of the most sought after locations in Burgundy. Since Alberic has taken over, the domaine has transitioned to entirely sustainable practices, and has become one of the first big domaines in Burgundy to gain organic certification.

There is fine punch to the unusually refined middle weight flavors that conclude in a mildly rustic and austere finale. This is very tightly wound and will need at least a few years to bottle aging to become more approachable." 88 points - Allen Meadows, Burghound

There is reasonably good volume to the stony and well-detailed middle weight flavors that terminate in a refreshingly saline-inflected finish. This high elevation vineyard is always better in warm vintages and 2018 is exactly that." 92 Points! - Allen Meadows, Burghound

2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
    RRP: $497 | Offer: $447
    94 Points - Vinous

"An attractively layered and fresh nose merges aromas of red and dark berries with those of earth, leather and a whiff of spice. There is excellent verve to the equally fresh large-scaled flavors that also possess solid mid-palate density before terminating in a youthfully austere and sneaky long finish that is very firmly structured. Even so, the supporting tannins are finer than usual and overall, this is more refined than it typically is."
94 Points - Allen Meadows, Burghound

2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
    RRP: $497 | Offer: $447

"Moderate reduction is enough to knock down the expressiveness and nuances of the earthy and ripe dark berry fruit scents. There is by contrast very good freshness and energy on the delicious and nicely detailed middle weight flavors that also culminate in a youthfully austere, serious and very firmly structured finale." 93 Points! - Allen Meadows

    2020 Echezeaux Grand Cru
    RRP: $639 | Offer: $576

    2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru
    RRP: $639 | Offer: $576

"There is enough wood to merit pointing out on the cool and ultra-fresh nose of overtly floral and attractively spicy red currant aromas. There is excellent verve to the medium weight flavors that are a combination of refinement and power, all wrapped in a markedly austere, compact and impressively long finish. As is usually the case, this is very firmly structured and, like the Malconsorts, clearly built-to-age." 93 Points! - Allen Meadows, Burghound

     2020 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru
    RRP: $788 |Offer: $669

"The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a lovely bouquet, beautifully defined with pure dark cherries, raspberry with touches of clove and white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip, quite structured for a Charmes-Chambertin, lightly-spiced with a cohesive and quite persistent finish." 96 Points! - Neal Martin

2021 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru 'Amoureuses'
    RRP: $922 | Offer: $829

"A spicier and more floral-inflected nose is also more deeply pitched with its aromas of plum and dark currant. The tension-filled yet caressing medium weight flavors possess better density and excellent minerality which adds a sense of lift to the lingering and moderately austere finish that is supported by very bright acidity that stops short of being drying though there is a certain leanness all the same." 92 Points! - Allen Meadows, Burghound

    2021 Chambertin Grand Cru
    RRP: $1,437 | Offer: $1,293

"The curious kind of reduction that the Burgundians refer to as bourgeon de cassis (cassis blossom) masks the nuances of the fruit today. The succulent but almost painfully intense larger-scaled flavors retain excellent delineation as well as a bracing minerality that becomes more prominent on the beautifully persistence if somewhat lean and linear finale. I really like the underlying tension and complexity." 93 Points - Allen Meadows, Burghound!
