Bass Phillip
South Gippsland, Victoria
"When Bass Phillip hits the highs, it truly pushes the boundaries of Australian Pinot Noir greatness."
Lisa Perotti-Brown MW
"Putting it simply, Bass Phillip has made some of the best pinot noir I’ve drunk in my whole life, from anywhere of any age."
Robert Geddes MW
This is one of the best releases from one of Australia's greatest small producers. As followers of Bass Phillip wines will surely know, when they're on - they're on! This iconic Australian producer has had a changing of the guard in recent years, and the estate is now in the hands of Jean-Marie Fourrier of Domaine Fourrier in Gevrey Chambertin. The Bass Phillip vineyards have been organic since 1993 and biodynamic since 2002. The wines are vinified by natural yeast with minimal pumping and filtration and no fining agents are used; as such, the wines are incredibly pure and honest expressions of Gippsland pinot noir.
Cheers, Randall

"The Bass Phillip 2021 vintage is the first vintage whereby the full growing season, vinification, elevage and bottling are all under the control of the new team, led by Jean-Marie Fourrier and his Aussie team. The team focused on precision and attention to detail throughout the year, both in the vineyard and in the winery. The growing season, while challenging during the early growth stages, developed into ideal flowering, fruit set, and ripening phases. The above average yields have resulted in elegant and finessed wines with complexity and red summer fruits up front. The wines have great cellaring potential, or be equally enjoyable in their youth. As we continue the investments and improvements here at Bass Phillip, we hope the 2021 vintage brings you as much pleasure as we had in nurturing it." - Jean-Marie Fourrier, head winemaker at Bass Phillip

Less than one acre, planted since 1979. This section of the vineyard is more than 40 years old today , it has started to deliver complex nuances and has a very long-flavour, lingers cleanly on your palate. Typically, the wine has a fully integrated, complex blend of stone fruits , nuts and soft oak, riding on top of a balanced acidic backbone. It has very good depth and breadth on the palate, some nuttiness alongside the stone fruit flavours.

Bass Phillip 2021 Estate Pinot Noir

The Estate pinot is a selection of the finest barrels of which 25% are new, from the Leongatha vineyard. Full of expressive red and dark berry fruits with a brambly undergrowth and complexing black tea notes. A very pure expression of pinot noir. The palate is almost perfection...sweet, lush, sweet berry. Lovely fine tannins holding it all together and flavours echoing the nose that crescendo to the finish.
Bass Phillip 2021 Premium Pinot Noir
Offer: $285
LIMITED - One available per order!
The Premium pinot is a selection of the finest barrels of which 63% are new, from the South Leongatha and a smattering from the Leongatha vineyard. The nose is currently much punchier than the Estate, with oak to the fore, but with time this will mollify. There are still plenty of vibrant, expressive red and dark berry aromas, showing great portent for the future. The palate explodes with flavour and structure but has all the ingredients for an absolutely decadent pinot experience.
