2024 Bass Phillip Pinot Noir Reserve
    + Museum Magnums

The Bass Phillip range has gone from strength to strength, with great reliability and wines that have not just power, but a sexy, silky enrapturing and ethereal nature. They also have a slightly tightly wound style and a more apparent youthfulness than the previous regime; wines that beg for cellaring. Cheers, Randall.

"[..] Painstaking site selection, ultra-close vine spacing and the very cool climate of South Gippsland are the keys to the magic of Bass Phillip and its eerily Burgundian pinots. One of Australia’s greatest small producers, it's been heading down a new path since Jones sold the assets (winery, stock and 14ha of vineyards) in May '20 to a syndicate led by Burgundian winemaker Jean-Marie Fourrier (who has known Jones for 14 years)." 2024 Reserve Pinot Noir
    Offer: $870
"This legendary label can celebrate its status as producing arguably the most unique pinot noir wines in Australia. Few come close to the level of detail and quality but, more significantly, they are distinctive as they truly have a sense of place. These old vines talk. Taking in the aromas and flavours, you can’t help but think, ‘Gee this is a Bass Phillip wine.’ There’s a concentration and depth of flavour here; complex, rich yet seemingly ethereal. Full bodied, with remarkable tannin structure and lithe acidity. You finish the elixir knowing it’s one of our great wines."

    2022 Reserve Pinot Noir Magnum
    Offer: $2900 | Only 1 Available
"Deeply perfumed and ethereal, with aromas of wild blackberries, boysenberries, dark cherries, spices, wet bark and citrus peel. The palate is medium-bodied with seamless tannins, focused acidity, a creamy texture and complex notes of plums, forest floor, pomegranates, iodine and cured meat. This wine is so incredibly constructed and balanced, with layers of complexity that give a long, harmonious finish. Truly exceptional." 9Pts. - James Suckling

2024 Premium 'Old Vine' Pinot Noir
    Offer: $265
"The Estate is no more than 30km away from Bass Strait and this excellent wine smells oceanic – of ferrous and iodine. It's quite compelling. Then dark cherries, warm earth, autumn leaves and a hint of exotic spices appear. Very savoury. The palate is a textural delight, deep and concentrated with bold flavours, yet has energy and drive. Plentiful, fine-grained tannins allow everything to end on a high note."

2022 Premium 'Old Vine' Pinot Noir Magnum
    Offer: $690 | Only 3 Available
"All up, this spends 14 months in French oak (36% new) and the outcome is an impressive wine. No wallflower as it’s rich, ripe, full-bodied and laden with aromas and flavours of dark cherries, florals, joss sticks, chinotto, baking spices and garrigue. Raw silk tannins flood the palate, so too the sweet fruit; concentrated and powerful, yet there’s a succulence and vitality within. A lot to consider, including cellaring for a few years before drinking. And yet, for hedonists, there’s an innate beauty making this irresistible now." 97Pts. "MUSEUM" 2017 "Backyard" 17K Vineyard Pinot Noir
    Offer: $79
Perfectly cellared for nearly a decade, this wine originates from the "backyard" vineyard in Leongatha South, Gippsland, Victoria from a densely planted plot of 17,000 vines per hectare. Low yields combined with attentive Bass Philip winemaking principles delivers a stunning, perfectly cellared bottle of world class wine from arguably Australia's most celebrated pinot producer. I picked this blind as a Bass Phillip recently, because of the sexy nose of sandalwood and rose petals. This is made by Phillip Jones. Randall.

    2022 Estate Pinot Noir Magnum
    Offer: $275 | Only 3 Available
"An elegant style, almost gentle with every element from fruit and acidity to tannins neatly in place. It’s a complete wine. Red cherry accents, rose petals, charred radicchio and a host of spices for good measure. It continues to unfurl beautifully in the glass. As seamless as it gets thanks to superfine tannins and a powder puff of acidity." 97Pts. Gold - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion

    2023 'Depuis' Pinot Noir
    Offer: $515 | Only 2 Available
A bold new style introduced in the 2023 vintage by the new Fourrier-led team, showcasing a 100% whole bunch approach as a difference - this was the first vintage and an iconic, rare bottling in the making!

"Vigneron Jean-Marie Fourrier destems pinot at his Burgundian domaine and at Bass Phillip, in order to preserve flavour and freshness. Not surprising given he was a protégé of the late, great Henri Jayer, who did the same. So, here it is – Depuis 23, which means 'since' in French (as in this style started in ‘23). Fermented with 100% whole bunches and aged in French oak, 50% new, for 14 months. Given all that, weaker sites would produce something weedy and astringent. Not this. Sure, it’s stemmy with bitter herbs, but it’s also superbly integrated because at its heart is excellent fruit, all sweet and tangy. A little smokiness comes through, aniseed, almost pastis-like, umami/Vegemite and oak spices with raw silk tannins sashaying across the fuller-bodied palate. There’s a density and richness but it’s not weighty. Whole-bunch junkies will be stoked." 96Pts. - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion

    2022 Estate Gamay Magnum
    Offer: $190 | Only 2 Available

    2023 Gewurztraminer Magnum
    Offer: $115 | Only 1 Available
This is a fun, food friendly wine full of flavour and grippy acidity. A balanced roundness of floral, fruity and lingering aromatics captures the senses beyond the “back palate”. These gewurz’ develop a creamy texture after about three years in the bottle. A unique style for Australia.
