Margaret River and Mount Barker, two of Western Australia’s most distinguished wine regions, offer strikingly different yet complementary expressions of cool-climate viticulture. Margaret River, long celebrated for its maritime influence and gravelly loam soils, produces Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay of precision, depth, and longevity, easily some of the best in Australia. Its extended growing season, moderated by the Indian Ocean, allows for remarkable balance between ripeness and acid retention. Further south, the Great Southern enjoys a markedly cooler, wetter climate with pronounced diurnal variation, where we see wines of tension, fragrance, and fine detail. Have fun with our handpicked "Best of the West" list below, headlined by the release of the spectacular 2023 Cullen wines.
