Drouhin-Laroze
Burgundy

I visited this domaine about 12 years ago and was amazed to see the big multi-level stacks of Grand Cru barrels taking up most of the cellar, with the 1er Cru and Villages lined up along the sides of the cellar. There is no Bourgogne! The family have 6 Grand Crus, 4 1er Crus  and a few Villages wines. The quality has improved dramatically since my visit, and the prices here are amazing! It hard these days to get a Gevrey Grand Cru for under $1K! Cheers, Randall
This 170+y.o. domaine is now in it’s 6th generation of vignerons with brother and sister team Nicolas and Caroline Drouhin taking the reins from father Philippe, refining and deepening the incredible wines of this historic address. Since 2015, Nicolas has begun introducing a percentage of whole bunch into the ferment, giving the wines an extra touch of sappy, stemmy character that lifts the overall complexity.
Caroline and Nicolas say of the 2020 vintage: “We used on average 25% whole clusters... As to the style of the 2020s, they're clearly the product of a warm vintage yet they don't drink like it because they're so incredibly vibrant and fresh. There is excellent richness and their refreshing characters just make you feel like drinking them. For me, they're fresher and the alcohols are better balanced than their 2019 counterparts."
These wines are just about to land and are expected next week!

 "Outstanding" - Allen Meadows, Burghound
“30% whole bunch vinification shows happily because the fruit is really quite ripe. There is a sweetness of fruit which stops short of cloying, and the oak currently shows a bit. But this should come together pleasingly.” 90-93pts – Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

 2020 Drouhin-Laroze Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru

92-95pts! – Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
"A notably fresher and brighter nose is comprised by the essence of black cherry, raspberry and wisps of earth and the sauvage. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the less rich but more delineated flavours that possess ample minerality moderately austere, balanced and lengthy finale. This is very classy juice that should age well." 91-94pts - Allen Meadows, Burghound

2020 Drouhin-Laroze Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
RRP: $615 | Offer: $490

“Dense purple, quite ripe, plenty of energy though as well. A dark purple sort of fruit, 30% whole bunch vinification keeps the wine lively while the 80% new wood currently marks it a bit, but leaves no aggressive wood tannins.” 93-95pts! – Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2020 Drouhin-Laroze Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
RRP: $815 | Offer: $640

Perhaps the domaine's finest wine, this is a sumptuous example of grand cru Chambolle - Jasper Morris MW

“40% whole bunch vinification 80% new wood, and a yield of just 24 hl/ha. Dark dense purple, this is clearly one of the ripe wines though somewhat saved by the whole bunches which give greater life to the sundried cherry fruit. Very succulent through the second half of the palate, though at the limit of ripeness. The whole bunches pull out the length very nicely and it finishes well.” 93-96pts! – Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2020 Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin-Clos de Beze Grand Cru
RRP: $920 | Offer: $780

“30% whole bunch vinification, and aged in 100% new wood. Dark intense purple. This has the most interesting nose to date of the grands crus because the least lush. More volume of fruit across the palate, less lush and more juicy, with a precision too. Tannins in balance, with just a hint of phenols at the finish.” 94-96pts! – Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
