The 2019 Il Poggione is a revelation; a great estate and a near-perfect vintage. It is not like Bordeaux but doffs its hat by showing some cassis, cedar, and cigar-box spice. There is no oak apparent which is great, as the ripe fruit shines through with complex nuances of autumnal woodsmoke, dry forest floor, Asian spice box notes with berry fruit aplenty. The unmistakably Italian tannin backbone is ripe, sophisticated and long. This is a truly profound wine! See below also for some unmissable end-of-financial-year deals on a range of Italian classics.
Cheers, Randall.
