THE CRITICS
Neal Martin of Vinous is clearly a big fan of Frederic Burrier's wines, here's a little more about his scoring structure, an indication to just how important these wines are in the Macon. In addition as you'll read, Jasper Morris and Allen Meadows are also very positive about this release.
OUTSTANDING: 90-95 points: a wine of remarkable personality and breed that is well worth seeking out.
95 points, 5 Stars! - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
An outstanding wine in its category. This accolade will be given very rarely, certainly to less than 10% of wines tasted across the year.
91-94 points, Outstanding  - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Pre Arrival: 2023 Pouilly Fuisse 1er Cru Pouilly $158 | Offer: $103

93 points - Cristy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin

Equal to Caroline Morey Chassagne 1er Cru Charmes, Raveneau 1er Cru Vaillons, Neillon Batard, Roulut Luchets and Narvaux, E & E Vocoret 1er Cru Butteaux and many more great names.

'Beautifully open on the nose, this exudes tree blooms, rich citrus, vanilla bean and donut
peaches. Just as dense on the palate, this is brightened by a live wire of chalky tension.'

'A glowing lively yellow colour. No feeling of the south here, yet increased density on the nose. The balance of everything, power, class, restraint. White fruit with a little inflection of yellow. Strongly marl influenced. The natural acidity is more of minerality here without taking on iodine character. Brilliantly persistent.' An outstanding wine in its category. This accolade will be given very rarely, certainly to less than 10% of wines tasted across the year. A generic Bourgogne might deserve this reward if it merits 89 or 90 points whereas a Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles would need 96 for the same result.' 94 points, 5 stars - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

PRE ARRIVAL 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er 'Hommage à Léonard Chandon' $195 | Pre Arrival:  $133 (Due June)
94 points - Cristy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin
Beating PYCM Chassagne 1er Cru Chenevottes, Raveneau Montmains, Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Purusots, J. Carillon Puligny 1er Cru perrieres and many more great names!
'This pumps through punchy orchard fruits, from apricot and nectarine to Fuji apples. Kissed with 30% new oak, vanilla bean, toasted brioche and honey double down on the generously long finish. Loaded with panache and substance, this will be a crowd pleaser early on but can also age well for the next five to six years at the very least.'

'This is very well defined on the nose with impressive intensity, the oak beautifully assimilated, very focused and delineated. The palate has wonderful balance, though the wood i again conspicuous at the moment and requires time to be absorbed. The 2023 has very good depth and real weight on the finish with a vivacious pepperiness that lingers on the aftertaste. Excellent.' 93 points - Neal Martin, Vinous
91-94 points, Outstanding - Allen Meadows, Burghound

2022 Pouilly Fuisse 1er Cru Pouilly $175 | Offer $125
95 points, 5 Stars! - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
An outstanding wine in its category. This accolade will be given very rarely, certainly to less than 10% of wines tasted across the year. A generic Bourgogne might deserve this reward if it merits 89 or 90 points whereas a Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles would need 96 for the same result.
'A clear bright lemon yellow. The bouquet is thrilling, intensity with elegance. Such a weight of fruit, massive but not monolithic, while the balance is outstanding and the finish seems endless. Completely dry yet such a richness of fruit, more white than yellow, fills out the mouth. All about the weight, no sign of the heat.'

2022 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er 'Hommage à Léonard Chandon'
$154 | Offer: $129
'Fractionally fuller yellow, the nose a little less striking than the aromatics of the regular 1er Cru, not a question of over-oaking but the detail is currently hidden by the extra elevage. The fruit breaks through the wood on the palate, but it is all much tighter. Waves of fruit keep coming back across the palate. Clearly very fine, just less striking right now.' 94 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

2021 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er 'Hommage à Léonard Chandon'
$154 | Offer: $129
'The Hommage is a barrel selection (6 barrels in 2021) in order to make a vin de garde. A glowing colour with a green streak. The oak is more apparent on the nose. Just a more luxurious version of the previous wine, oakier too, and for me, while the wine is young, this hides the precision of the regular Pouilly. Just give it twenty years says Frédéric. Drink from 2028-2040.' 94 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

2018 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er 'Hommage à Léonard Chandon'
$155 | Offer $135
'Bottled in March 2020. Fine pale primrose. The nose has superb density in the same style as the regular Pouilly, rose petals with a slight coconut infusion. Builds more and more in the mouth, without taking on too much heat.' 92 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

2018 Great Southern Cabernet Malbec
RRP: $23 | Offer: $14 | Straight 6: $60
'Blackcurrant, chocolate, bay leaf and lavender. Medium-bodied, compact and juicy in flavour, freshness and light tannin, classic Cabernet kind of feel, and a slightly chewy finish of good length. Nicely done. Very stylish at the price too.' 90 points - Gary Walsh, Wine Front

2019 Heartwines 'Archie' Old Bush-Vine McLaren Vale Grenache
RRP: $33 Offer: $19.90 | $18.90 in 6-Packs!
'Big man Randall Pollard says “Maslin Sands and organic old bush-vine character! Made by PF at Yangarra, with 2 tonnes of hand-picked  fruit, de-stemmed, whole berries, gently plunged with the occasional pump over. Natural ferment, doted over by Shelly Torresan, then put in old barriques.” Blewitt Springs is the appellation.
Excellent Grenache of firm structure and ferrous nature. Ripe raspberry, dried rose, a little spice and clay-like earthiness. It’s firm with dry fine sandy tannin, cherry and other red fruit,s a little juicy but not at all sweet or confected, which is a lovely thing. Finish is insistently tannin in the nicest possible way, and long with it. Excellent.'
94 points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

This is made from fruit grown on the famous Highsands block at Yangarra from the venerable 1940's bushvines plantings! When it was younger I used to call it the "Chambolle of the Vale" because of its intense red-fruit / raspberry fruit, but now as it slowley ages there is a little more earth and sandalwood creaping in. It's not a light nor heavy wine but it has complexity of flavour and texture, still with nice freshness and great ageing potential too. This is not a wine designed to ever sell at this low price! Randall.
