"Frédéric Burrier’s excellent wines from the Mâconnais are well-known and rightly celebrated but his outstanding work in Beaujolais is still pretty much an insiders’ secret. From estate-owned vines in the region’s best Crus, Burrier produces a range of top-notch wines that, unsurprisingly from a white wine specialist, showcase vibrancy, balance and finesse.(…) It is beautifully defined (…) This is a very fine and serious Moulin-à-Vent." 93 points - Neil Martin, Vinous
Frederic Burrier, a native Maconais vigneron, grew up in and around the vines and twin villages of Solutré-Pouilly and Fuissé. He studied oenology in Dijon and then worked at Louis Jadot in Beaune for 12 years. He is a lover of great wines of the world, and is happy drinking a fine Bordeaux, Australian, Loire or a Rousseau. He sat and passed one of the MW exams, but got bogged down with work running his family’s Domaine and never finished the final. So, he knows great wine, and ha strives to make it with great determination. His chardonnays, with their power and depth have more in common with the Cote de Beaunes than most Macons.
Frederic is exceptionally happy with his 2022's - "Fleshy, grip, ripe, intensity of structure..." These are words he used repeatedly over many cuvees. I tasted these wines, along with a good smattering of 2023's from barrel and 2021's from bottles, and the wines are not only sensational in power and complexity, but they show characters akin to Meursault or Puligny. The 2022's have a generous deep concentration and also finesse with great acidity. Randall
