2023 Domaine Robert Chevillon

The 2023s are another reminder that no estate better represents the full breadth of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The domaine’s 13 hectares encompass the appellation’s breadth and greatness, producing premiers crus of both finesse, structure and well-reputed ageability. All fruit is destemmed, fermentations are closely managed, and élevage extends to 18 months with 30% new oak use for ageing. The northern crus, including Chaignots and Bousselots, are perfumed and more Vosne-like; the southern crus, (all the others) offer more power and longevity. For customers, it’s a unique opportunity: grand cru quality and premier cru pricing. Across the board, balance, terroir expression and cellaring potential are assured. I tasted a Bourgogne Rouge 2023 last week, and it had such a beautiful depth and oomph that I soon forgot it was Bourgogne! Cheers, Randall

This is an important cuvee for this domaine as it represents 3.5ha; 10 plots with an average vine age of 55y.! This jumped out of the glass when I tasted it; Bertrand saw my smile, he said, "Yes, it's a nice surprise, we did a big green harvest, and it's deep and rich"! It was assembled when I tasted it and it had dark cherry fruit, great depth, silky firmness and enticing length. Cheers, Randall
"An ultra-fresh nose speaks of ripe red and dark berries plus an abundance of earth character. There is better volume and density to the energetic medium weight flavors where the supporting tannins are unusually fine in the context of what is typical for a Nuits villages."

"A rich deep concentrated purple. I detect a peachy note, the sun has struck here. A bit of thyme too. There is a more forceful structure in the Roncière, a limestone underlay to the fine but ripe tannins, with impressive length."

"...revealing brambly red fruit, loamy scents and just a hint of wild mushroom. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, slightly lactic entry. There's a fine bead of acidity here, sorbet-fresh with marmalade and desiccated orange peel notes toward the finish. This has fine length and should age with style."

This was offered for tasting, this year, after the Les St. Georges, and without seeing them side by side, I'd say it was darker and more closed. Certainly it's very deep and rich with a great and long backbone.
