New Releases from legendary producers Mount Mary and Bass Phillip
Mount Mary
Yarra Valley, Victoria
"Mount Mary was one of the foremost pioneers of the Yarra Valley after 50 years without viticultural activity. From the outset they produced wines of rare finesse and purity. The late founder, Dr John Middleton, practised near-obsessive attention to detail long before that phrase slid into oenological vernacular. He relentlessly strove for perfection and all 4 of the wines in the original Mount Mary portfolio achieved just that (within the context of each vintage). Charming grandson Sam Middleton is equally dedicated, assuming the winemaker mantle in ’11. In ’08 Mount Mary commenced a detailed program of vine improvement, in particular assessing the implications of progressively moving towards a 100% grafted vineyard to provide immunity from phylloxera and a move to sustainable organic viticulture. - James Halliday
These wines are expected to arrive next week!
Offer: $114
"...A stunning Triolet with its aromas of greengages, white nectarine, Meyer lemon, lemongrass and jasmine. There's a hint of sandalwood coming from the oak. Seductive, powerful and restrained. Slippery, chalky textured, tightly wound and very long, this is going to be a great and long-lived wine. In a league of its own." 98 Points! - Phillip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
2021 Mount Mary Pinot Noir
Offer: $209
"...Concentrated and structured with very fine, sinewy and savoury tannins. A brilliant, non-mainstream Yarra Valley pinot that's been built to go the distance." 97 Points! - Phillip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
2021 Mount Mary Quintet
Offer: $209
"This is a special Quintet (and I don't say this lightly) from the first. Aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, dark cherry skins and crushed violets. A whisper of pencil-shaving oak. An elegant, concentrated, pure and structured wine that will become even more special with time. ." 98 Points! - Phillip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
2021 Mount Mary Chardonnay
Offer: $165
"Seductive with its bouquet of melon, fresh fig, yellow peach, chamomile and a little lemongrass. A savoury nuance, too. On the palate, which is powerful, densely packed and structured, you'll find some grapefruit pith and hazelnut. Finishes extremely long, saline and gently grippy." 96 Points! - Phillip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
2020 Mount Mary Chardonnay
Offer: $114
"...Typically refined and elegant, but isn't stand-offish. The Yarra Valley's calling card of chardonnay is its extreme length, built around natural acidity and citrus zest. Oak is part of the upbringing, but discreet, and the wine has a very long plateau ahead." 97 Points! - James Halliday, The Wine Companion

2021 Bass Phillip Reserve Pinot Noir
Offer: $998
1 bottle per person, email to order
"If you are labelled 'Reserve', there’s a reputation to live up to and, as it turns out, this is the nirvana of the suite of BP pinot noirs. As complex, as detailed and as precise as you can get. Heady forest floor aromas, the fragrance of this vineyard, dark fruit, black tea, Middle Eastern spices and star anise with a dusting of cocoa. It keeps giving. The full-bodied palate is superbly textured and coated in ripe, velvety tannins, cedary oak and refreshing acidity... Bravo." 97 Points! - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
2015 Bass Phillip Premium Chardonnay
Offer: $157
"The intensity goes up a notch, so too the richness, so too the extension of flavour through the finish. This is fresh with acidity, encased in sweet oak, prettied with floral aromas and driven by stonefruit and lime. The aftertaste adds steel and bran to the equation. Arguably the most important impression though is that it’s pretty bloody delicious." 93 points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2014 Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir HALF BOTTLE
Offer: $231
Pinot noir with flavour and attitude and a scaffold of tannin is one thing, and this wine has all those things. But pinot noir with a ricochet of flavour through the finish, a sense of spread and run, an impression that the burst/explosion turned out to be greater than the package of the palate had predicted; this is far rarer territory, and it is the domain of this wine.' - 98 Points! James Halliday's Pinot Noir of the Year
2020 Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir
Offer: $285
"It's a sterling wine. Incredibly savoury with charcuterie, dried herbs and wafts of earth and autumn leaves with the oak both etched into and bolstering the palate. Fuller bodied but not weighty. This feels quite effortless, as the plush tannins and refreshing acidity work towards a lingering, very long finish. Quite a beauty." 97 Points! - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
