Giaconda
Beechworth, Victoria
The wines of Giaconda are so famous, so sought after, and so great because of Rick's burning desire to produce the very best possible, along with almost endless hard work, skill and determination. Now with his son Nathan (who has been there working for 17 years) this team is still crafting ground-breaking wines. This release of wines are sensational. Cheers, Randall.
"The story of Giaconda is a remarkable journey of faith in nature, self-belief and ambition. Rick Kinzbrunner is making some of Australia’s most exquisite wines."

“The 2022 Estate Vineyard Chardonnay follows hot on the heels of the perfect 2021 release, and in doing so, it has big boots to fill. Aromatically, the wine leads, as all Giaconda Chardonnay's do, with white flowers and notions of campfire and charred gum leaves, cracked white peppercorns and white peach, salt and caper brine. Crushed and salted nuts, enoki mushroom, shaved fennel, torched pink grapefruit ... the cavalcade of flavors march on across the palate. In this season, the wine is altogether more quietly nuanced and placid than the sleek, powerfully focused 2021 vintage. However, in so saying, this wine is balanced and fine, somewhat less overtly reductive (although still imbued with that salivating characteristic), populated by softer-spoken fruit and yet no less sapid or palate staining. It is in the mouth that the pedigree of the wine comes to the fore. The chalky texture and the penetrating intensity of flavor in combination are what make this wine so great, as I see it, and the 2022 vintage provides a gentle framework within which the wine exists. This is a gorgeous, elegant, precise and detailed release of this magnificent wine.” 98 points! – Erin Larkin, robertparker.com
2022 Giaconda Estate Vineyard Roussanne
LIMITED
Offer: $95
LIMITED
Offer: $95
“The 2022 Estate Vineyard Roussanne marks the inaugural release of this cuvee, and it is evident upon tasting the wine that it is a worthy addition to the Estate Vineyard range. Somewhat golden in the glass and leading with an incredibly spicy nose, there is white pear and gum leaves, a hint of the "Giaconda campfire" character (big fan of it), cracked fennel seeds and green apple skins, with white pepper and layers of brine. On the palate, the true nature of Roussanne is revealed; it is waxy and wide, texturally plump and a little chewy, with layered phenolics and lashings of flavor. The acidity is tight and laces the finish into a tight spear of tension and complexity. This is a brilliant wine, one of the very best Roussannes that Australia has to offer the world of wine.” 96 points – Erin Larkin, robertparker.com
2022 Giaconda Beechworth Shiraz
LIMITED

Offer: $103
"This is labelled as ‘Beechworth Shiraz’, and comes from the Warner Vineyard and Estate plantings. I reckon I still have a few bottles of the 2004 Estate Shiraz (screwcap I think), and wonder how that’s travelling now. Maybe time to find out!
Rich, sweet dark fruit, damp earth and biscuit spice, lots of praline too, all that hazelnut and chocolate is a thing, also some cool mint and floral perfume. Medium to full-bodied, sweet uptake of plum and cherry, and again that hazelnut chocolate theme is repeated on the palate, tannin is fine-grained, and kind of sooty, there’s also clay and petrichor, and the finish is long and packed with choc-mint richness. Love the feel of the tannin, though as a young wine, it’s kind of ebullient in fruit richness. Time should be kind to it." 94 pts - Gary Walsh, thewinefront.com
2021 Giaconda Beechworth Nebbiolo

Offer: $128

Offer: $128
"Yes and yes, now comes in a burgundy shaped bottle. Good.
Quite minty and aniseedy, tobacco and nutmeg, blue and red fruit, then there’s squishy blue fruit and mint, almond and quiet grip to tannin, some succulence, some cherry and autumnal character, with grainy tannin to close along with some nutty flavours. Mint is a theme, but nice wine all up." 92 pts - Gary Walsh, thewinefront.com

2022 Valli Bannockburn Vineyard Pinot Noir
Offer: $88
Offer: $88
"On the nose, this 2022 Bannockburn Vineyard Pinot Noir is savory and spicy. There is clove and sumac, pastrami and raspberry pip, with black tea, tobacco and brine. This is a lovely wine. There's loads of freshness and density and yet capaciousness. It has an "open-throated" finish, loose-weave without being slack. 2022 was the 25th anniversary of Valli, and Grant says, "We really picked the eyes out for our 25th anniversary year." 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." 93 pts - Erin Larkin, robertparker.com
2022 Valli Gibbston Vineyard Pinot Noir
Offer: $88
Offer: $88
"The 2022 Gibbston Vineyard Pinot Noir is mineral and yet fleshy on the nose, with cherry pip and star anise, both of which pull through onto the plate. There's cracked fennel seed, pink peppercorns, blond tobacco and finely milled white pepper to close. The fresh acidity eddies about like leaves caught in a whirlwind updraft, and it freshens all aspects of the palate. In conjunction with the tannins, this really pulls the flavor across through to the finish. Balanced, superb. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." 94+ pts - Erin Larkin, robertparker.com
2022 Valli Bendigo Vineyard Pinot Noir
Offer: $88
Offer: $88
"The 2022 Bendigo Vineyard Pinot Noir is lovely, every which way. The fruit is concentrated and supple, and it has liveliness and freshness from the acidity, but the tannins bring that forth in the mouth as well. This is a beautifully shaped wine, more curved and flowing than static or straight. A wine of substance, it is also a wine that has restraint and space. It's skillfully handled and super impressive. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." 95 pts - Erin Larkin, robertparker.com
2022 Valli Waitaki Vineyard Pinot Noir
Offer: $98
Offer: $98
"The 2022 Waitaki Vineyard Pinot Noir is light and fine, both in the glass and aromatically. On the palate, the wine is so fine and littered with crushed shells, river stones and cherry skin. This is fragrant and lithe, pretty and detailed. It is all of these things, but it is not short. It spools through the long finish, like a fishing rod reel in cast. As there will be no 2023 Waitaki Vineyard Pinot Noir, make hay while the sun shines, I say. A beauty. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." 94 pts - Erin Larkin, robertparker.com
