Nestled in Victoria's Western District, amidst classic grazing country, the Irrewarra area might not seem an obvious choice for viticulture. Yet, like the nearby, highly regarded Henty region, it proves that exceptional and age-worthy wines are made — especially in the hands of the talented Nick Farr.
John Calvert and Bronwynne Roberts left their legal careers in Melbourne to pursue a vintage in Burgundy, where they discovered a profound appreciation for fine wine and artisan bread. In 2001, they planted their vineyard choosing a mix of clones on own roots, during unexpected years of drought, as the vines drove their roots deep into the moisture-rich clay beneath. It was 15 years before a wine was released - testament to the care and patience devoted to the vineyard.
