COBAW RIDGE
I visited Allan and Nelly Cooper a few weeks ago at Cobaw, in the rocky granite hills near Kyneton. Here the climate is marginal and due to this the amazing 2024 Shiraz is their first since the 2019 vintage, such are the problems of wind and frost etc. But this is a mind-blowingly great red, one that would put many southern French shiraz' from St. Joseph or Hermitage in their place for 1/2 or 1/3 the price. I tasted a 2019 chardonnay at dinner on the same day and that well showed, the inner core of strength, fine quality and great ageability that these wines have. They are true treasures. Cheers, Randall
BY FARR
It’s easy to say, now that we are where we are, that the By Farr endeavour was always going, at some stage, to move from excellent to elite, or from very good to superb. In wine, such a conclusion is never foregone, and no matter how hard anyone tries, it will forever remain out of the reach of most. And yet, By Farr is now here; it is one of the best, a leader on all quality fronts. James Halliday
Please note: the two Pinot Noir cuvées (RP and Tout Pres) are available only as part of a twin-pack paired with the GC Chardonnay.
Due to extremely limited volumes, no single bottle Pinot purchases are possible.
No reviews have been published for this release so far, but By Farr’s history of producing wines of remarkable consistency and finesse is testament to its standing.
BANNOCKBURN
2025 Bannockburn Rielsing
'Made mainly from 0.4ha of vines planted in 1976. A light, bright green gold. A delicate and complex bouquet of just-picked white peach, grapefruit, lemongrass and flowers. The palate is just as delicate and vibrant, finishing dry and very long. The balance of fruit and acidity is nigh on perfect. A gorgeous wine from go to whoa!' 97 points - Philip Rich, The Wine Companion
