The oldest and greatest domaine on Mont Brouilly, Thivin has 30 hectares of vineyards with a very large percentage of venerable old bush-vines. Under the guidance and ownership of the Geoffray family since 1877, Sonja and Claude-Eduard, both oenologists and staunch organic converts, are the current custodians.
They have 7 Cote de Brouilly sites across the face of the slope, close to the gravity-friendly cellar.

On 2024 – A year of freshness, punch and clean fruit. This vintage was cool for many months until the warm and sunny August worked its magic. Picking took place in mid-late September. These classic wines can be enjoyed now but will age very well. Cheers, Randall.
The 2024 vintage has recently been reviewed by one of our favourite critics, Stuart Pigott. Check out some behind the scenes action of the 2024 production from the Thivin team: here and here.

2024 Beaujolais Villages 'Vignes d'Ecussol' (Single Site)
    $52 | Pre-Arrival Offer: $44
This is an amazingly high quality for a Beaujolais Villages level. Juicy, rich and super fresh with a multitude of berry fruit with hints of floral and mineral notes. The palate, however, has old-school richness. It's from a single site just outside the Cote de Brouilly AOC, at Quincié, just to the NE of Mont Brouilly on a gentle SE slope. Sonja uses a higher whole bunch component in contrast to the Cru wines. Screw-cap.

2024 Côte de Brouilly 'Les Sept Vignes'
    $75 | Pre-Arrival Offer: 750ml: $64     Magnum: $152
Sonja says that this has garnet red with bluish glints, bouquet of hawthorn, peonies, cherry, with a touch of minerality, round on the palate with black fruit, and a spicy finish. We recommend enjoying them after the second year, with a 5–10 years keeping potential.

"Generous and zesty with aromas of blood orange and sour cherry. Quite some tannins and a crisp acidity, but these fit together very well and the fruit is stronger than. Long, sleek and vibrant finish. From 7 parcels with volcanic diorite soil, but different exposures and altitudes. The Kermit Lynch bottling is similar, but unfiltered."

2024 Côte de Brouilly 'Le Clos'
    $91 | Pre-Arrival Offer: $78
This is Château Thivin’s historic vineyard, previously called Clos Bertrand, and is positioned moat-like around the manor-house. It was already planted with vines in the 14th century, as shown by an inscription on the lintel of a small cave that reads “1383”. This (once walled) vineyard at the foot of Mont Brouilly faces south-west; the soil is deeper and a proportion of pink granite is mixed with the magmatic rock of the hill. This is ususlly a rich and voluptuous wine as compared to the more chisiled La Chapel.

"This has an appealing richness that’s married to discreet notes of liquorice, cherry pastilles and ripe strawberries. Ample substance, fine tannins and some stony-smoky minerality. A positive touch of blood orange freshness at the long, delightfully rounded finish." 94 Pts. - Stuart Pigott, James Suckling

2024 Côte de Brouilly 'Les Griottes' (Dans la Brulhie)
    $85 | Pre-Arrival Offer: $77
5 ha south-facing vineyard half-way up the hillside that was already famous in the 17th century, as Louvet wrote in his History of the Beaujolais Wine Region written in 1635:

“on the hill of Brulhié (Brouilly), in the parish of Oudenas (Odenas) […] which slope or hill bears the best wines of the region”. This site has shallow soil over “blue stones” a magmatic rock also called metadiorite and makes a sturdy wine that ages well.

"Expressive, yet delicate, aromas of blood orange and wild strawberry that are still very youthful. Quite a serious tannin structure for this appellation, but they are already polished. Crisp, long finish with plenty of fruity vitality. From the south-facing side of the hill of Brouilly where the soil is volcanic diorite."

2024 Côte de Brouilly 'La Chapelle'
    $98 | Pre-Arrival Offer: $83
This site is just below the Chapel called Notre Dame du Raisin and is therefore one of the highest sites in Beaujolais. The mostly bush-vines have an average age of 60 years.on dry soil made up of a blue metamorphic diorite rock and is south-facing with slopes of up to 50%. No wonder the yields are lower here and the wine darker and mre structured. This vineyard is planted at a density of 8,000 vignes/ha with grassed and flower strips for diversification of the flora and fauna.

"Quite a radical expression of the appellation, although the tannin structure is by no means enormous. Subtle threads of beetroot and smoky minerality are interwoven with the sour cherry character to give this a wonderful tension right through the long, refined finish. From high up on the south-facing side of the hill of Brouilly from 80 plus year old vines on volcanic diorite soil." 95 Pts. - Stuart Pigott, James Suckling

2024 Côte de Brouilly 'Cuvee Zaccharie'
    $147 | Pre-Arrival Offer: $125

Click here for a video review of the 2024 bottling from the James Suckling team.
This very special cuvee is the pinnacle of Thivin's craft and is built for ageing. The Zaccharie is a selection of the best small batches that are aged in older 228lt barrels. It is a wine that unfurls over time and has the impressive inner strength to live for decades. This is incredibly elegant, with a quiet power with great lenth and filigreed flavours. The tannins are fine, silky, ripe and romplex too.

"The smokiness of this terroir and an oaky smokiness complement each other beautifully in this seriously concentrated wine with a stunning structure on the compact, medium-bodied palate.  Still needs a bit of time to fully integrate the oak, but the long, dark finish is already very impressive. Matured for almost 12 months in used Burgundian oak barrels." 95 Pts. - Stuart Pigott, James Suckling
