Domaine Philippe Colin | 2024 Pre-Arrival Offer
Chassagne and Santenay Reds and Whites: Top Holdings!
Colin is a big family name in Chassagne with many Domaine's having this name on the label. Philippe Colin is the brother of Bruno Colin, father of Simon Colin, and a 2nd cousin of P-Y Colin (Morey). He started on his own in 2004 and grew the Domaine to 11 ha before divesting most to his son. He kept some incredible sites (several Clos' and iconic, highly regarded little plots) that make up just 5.5ha. The vines have an average age of 50y and he now just replaces single vines that die or become diseased. Philippe is using more and more 500lt barrels and the 1er and the grand cru whites are barrel fermented and aged in 30-50% new oak . Reds are destemmed and and are red and dark-fruited bombs that are bright, clean and pure with good depth and firmish balanced tannins. I was surprised how bright, fruity and deliciously intense the 24's were!
We have some museum wines here in our warehouse; note the outstanding value, especially the reds! Please note 2024 (across the Burgundy board) is extremely limited.
Dispatching in late October 2026 - payment due with orders.

2024 Bourgogne Pinot Noir
Offer: $49 | Straight or Mixed 6: $45
I was struck by the lovely almost explosive berry fruit of this young red! It's from Chassagne and Santenay, there is no new oak, but it is 100% oak aged and given some gentle lees stirring. There is a ripe cherry and crushed strawberry core, and the tannins are not shy for a Bourgogne, making it firm and very well structured.
'One plot below Santenay, picked at the end. The underlying fruit is sound, if not noble, and a bit of oak shows through.' 88 Pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet "Champs de Morjot" (Rouge)
Offer: $84 | Straight or Mixed 6: $78
This is also destemmed with 20% new oak. The vines are 45yo and the wine shows some ferruginous "red-dirt" / rust / iodine character along with the powerful berry fruits and moist tobacco nuance that made chassagne famous for pinot. The tannins have more punch than the Santennay and the finish is nice and long.

2024 Santenay 1 er Cru "Clos de Saint Jean" Monopole (Rouge)
Offer: $84 | Straight or Mixed 6: $78
This square Clos is a plot near 1er Cru Grand Clos Rousseau and the church. The vines are 20+yo, These grapes are destemmed, and the wine is given 20% new oak. It has impressive and (to me) surprisingly good energy, vibrancy, pinot purity and chewy structure.

2024 Bourgogne Chardonnay
One of Burgundy's Best Values!
Offer: $49 | Straight or Mixed 6: $45
"From three plots below Meursault, Chassagne and Santenay. All made in 500-litre barrels without new wood. In bottle, just before the harvest. Mid lemon yellow, showing a touch of sulphur post bottling. Good tension here, medium bodied, attractive length, a good example." 87 Pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Offer: $159 | Straight or Mixed 6: $147
'Pure pale lemon. A little white fruit energy on the nose, fresh apple at the base. No great depth but there is certainly adequate fruit here, as well as typicity of the white soils of Chassagne. A good fresh finish once again. Drink from 2028-2030. Tasted in Oct 2025.'

2024 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Offer: $172 | Straight or Mixed 6: $159
'Pale in colour, steely, slightly reductive. Pure white fruit with tension on the palate, tightly wound, good concentration here, a little less easy going. A bitter touch to the apple at the finish. Taking longer to come round.' 88-90 Pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2024 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Les Chaumèes
Offer: $220 | Straight or Mixed 6: $204
The 1er Cru Chaumèes (not to be confused with Chaumes that is a part of Morgeot) is above Vergers and Chenevottes, at the northern end of the village next to the quarry and on the border of the St. Aubin 1er's. The rocky and sunny site is high on the hill on the same contour line as La Romanee 1er Cru at the southern end. The Clos St. Abdon is from a .43ha section that is 1/3 of the site (the rest now farmed by Philippe's son).
This is a really classy and finely balanced, quite powerful wine. It's one of those white burgundies that doesn't appear immediately massive but it has a persistence and complex nuance that sneaks up. There is a fine minerality from the high rocky site, with spiced apple, grapefruit and a hint of ripe peach and pineapple fruit.
'Simon Colin sharecrops this vineyard while Philippe gets the one third share of the owner. Pale lemon. Very interesting to taste on the same day as Simon’s part. The nose indicates a certain grip. There is a good generosity of orchard fruit with a light citrus topnote. Just the right amount of flesh on the palate and good length. Complete. Juicy and with crisp acidity.' 91-93 Pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2024 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Les Chenevottes
Offer: $220 | Straight or Mixed 6: $204
'Pale lemon in colour. Less immediate character than Chaumées but a feeling of precision. On the palate this lifts beautifully, refined citrus and quality apple, choose your brand. Not at all fleshy but with a precise linear concentration and excellent length.' 93-95 Pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2024 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er En Remilly
Offer: $279 | Straight or Mixed 6: $258
Of the 1.5ha. of the "almost" grand cru site, Philippe has 0.2ha., and he treats it like a grand cru with 50% new oak for 18 months. It's a riper and stonier expression (at the same time, which seems strange, in a great way!). It's a little in pieces with the floral and deep, ripe fruit notes fighting for dominance over the minerality , tension and grip.
'Pale lemon. Amazing finesse on the nose, this is a vineyard which can display such refinement. Follows through on the palate. There is heightened acidity but the apples are ripe and there is a fresh plum note too. Not a blockbuster in any sense, but a wine of delicious refinement and persistence..' 93-95 Pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2024 Meursault 1er Les Cras
Offer: $329 | Straight or Mixed 6: $304
This is served as last of the whites before the Chevalier, for a good reason as it's a "huge" wine of structure and stature. This comes from the more clayey part of Meursault near Santenots. This is a prized plot coming from Philippe's wife Gwenelle. It's dense and ripe, powerful and well structured. I want to follow up on this wine!
'Pale lemon colour. A powerful energy here. Hard to taste after En Remilly, but there is extra density here nonetheless, just less refinement. Well made with good length, a firm limestone personality.' 91-93 Pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

2024 Chavelier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Offer: $1425
Extremely limited - 1 bottle per mixed 6 pack
Please email to request an allocation: sales@randalls.net.au
This is .25ha plot adjacent to both Leroy and Leflaive! 13 rows, from bottom to top, it's 14% alc. that is well hidden, with 50% new oak, and a bracing, elegant minerality that reeks of great grand cru! The vines were planted in 1978 and 1955!
'The crop consists of 2 x 500- and one x 300-litre barrels. Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet has its Chevalier nobility. Ripe lemon skins here. This is tougher and tighter in structure, with more muscle than En Remilly, perhaps some wood tannins..' 92-96 Pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
