Weekly Super Special: Mosel Magic from Willi Schaefer

Rare dry wines from Grossen Lagen sites!

On hand now for immediate dispatch

No one makes more classic and traditional Mosel than Christoph and Andrea Schaefer. When you see the steep sites of Graach (Dromprobst and Himmelreich) just near the cellar and taste the wines from the traditional old 1000lt barrels, you get a sense of the greatness and timelessness that this small estate exudes. Cheers, Randall

'…The (2021) wines show great purity, finesse, but also huge presence and energy, and really show the best of the Mosel can offer, with lightness yet immense complexity. They are all at least great, even for both village wines… In a word: Bravo!“ - Mosel Fine Wines

2021 Riesling Mosel Graacher Trocken

"Saline and crystalline on the palate, with intense, elegant and tangy fruit, this is a promising dry riesling whose grapes predominantly come from the Himmelreich, but in this year, there are also some Domprobst."

Producer in Focus: Dave Bicknell
The Guy Roulot of Gladysdale.

David Bicknell needs no introduction to winelovers as maker of the remarkable Oakridge 864 wines. They won him the GT Wine - Winemaker of the Year award, and praise from afar for these famous high quality and his very age-worthy chardonnays.

Bicknell FC is the family winemaking project of David Bicknell and Nicky Harris, and the Applecross site is one of Yarra's best, situated at the top of the hill in "grand cru" Gladysdale. There is 1 Ha of chardonnay and 1.5 Ha of pinot noir planted in 1988. The chardonnay here is one of Australia's most age-worthy, and both wines are amongst Yarra's finest. Dave's chardonnays start life  tightly wound with a serious inner core of power and a steely, classy chassis, but they full of fruit and complexity. The more you think about them, the more you look, the longer you keep them, the more reward you get. Don't overlook the reds; the pinots offer real class and depth, beyond their fame; the Cabernet is a classic too. These are amazing bargains at these special prices. Give this guru a break. Please try some. Cheers, Randall.

2025 Bicknell FC Applecross Pinot Noir
Offer: $65 | $58 in 6-Packs

"A light, bright crimson. A pure-fruited nose with its perfumed aromas of raspberry, redcurrant and some subtle, whole-bunch-derived spice and dried flowers. Fills out ever so nicely on the energetic palate, which has a little more stuffing than the '24 without sacrificing that lightness of touch that pervades David Bicknell's pinots. Superfine, very persistent tannins round out a beautifully put-together wine that can be enjoyed now and that will continue to evolve over the next five to seven years at least." 96+Pts. - Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion

2025 Bicknell FC Applecross Chardonnay
Offer: $65 | $58 in 6-Packs

"Barrel fermented and matured in older French puncheons. Bright green gold. Pure fruited and complex, with aromas of white nectarine and apple blossom, together with a gentle waft of sea spray. There's a gentle fleshiness on the palate matched by the wine's precise, perfectly integrated acidity. Beautifully balanced from beginning to end; a seamless wine to drink now and over the next four to six years."

2025 Bicknell FC Close-Planted Pinot Noir
Offer: $89 | $79 in 6-Packs

"100% destemmed and matured in a mixture of seasoned barriques, hogsheads and puncheons. Exceptionally fragrant, with aromas of wild strawberry, perfectly ripe red cherry, floral notes and alpine herbs such as wild thyme and gentian. Concentrated and finely detailed, the tannins are almost hidden by the wine's plush, beautifully fruited and energetic palate. Finishes long and satisfying. As good as this is now, those that still have a bottle or two in their cellar 10 or so years from now will be well rewarded." 98+Pts - Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion

2025 Bicknell FC Lance Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon
Offer: $79

"From the Lance vineyard in St. Andrews and off a block planted in 1976. 100% whole berries and matured in older barriques. A gorgeous crimson purple. This literally soars from the glass, with its fruit-driven nose redolent of blackcurrant, red cherry, lavender and just a soupçon of dried herbs. Medium bodied, the wine's crunchy fruit is balanced by bright acidity and gently chewy tannins, making this delicious, particularly so with food, right now. That it will age effortlessly over the next six to eight years, at least, is a bonus." 97Pts - Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
