Domaine Robert Chevillon
Nuits-Saint-Georges
As Bourghound.com says: "Chevillon is without question one of the most consistent producers in all of Burgundy and if more proof was somehow needed, the 2021 vintage is Exhibit A, as the quality is irreproachable. Moreover, I am convinced that if the domaine were based in Chambolle or Vosne with a similar range of 1ers rather than Nuits, the wines would sell for multiples of what they do, that's just how undervalued they are."
The 2020 and 2021 vintages from this iconic estate are of supreme quality, the 2020 a little riper, fuller and more black- fruited; the 2021 more "classic" with a broad range of red berry fruit, great freshness and density. 2012's in general have lived well and are ageing very gracefully. I tasted a 2012 Les St. Georges in April and it was graceful, youthful and was a "screaming" benchmark.
This is a rare opportunity to grab some classic Chevillon greatness that has never left the cold, damp Chevillon cellar until last month. These bottles have gone straight from the mouldy stack deep in the cellar (via a washing and labelling machine) to a 14C truck and "reefer" shipping container at the same temperature. The provenance is astonishing!
Cheers, Randall
"This is one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy. Old vines, cultivated soils, moderate yields and long fermentations with entirely destemmed grapes are the order of the day." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2012 Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Chaignots'
RRP: $349 | Pre-Arrival: $289
"Chevillon is always so appealing out of the blocks that I find that I generally have none left in my cellar five years out from any given vintage, though I buy the with great regularity. The 2012 is certainly going to be difficult to keep one’s hands off of once it arrives in the cellar, as it is a beautiful wine that promises to offer up (yet again) very fine drinking in its youth. The superb nose wafts from the glass in a sappy blend of red plums, cherries, cocoa, nutskin, a complex base of soil tones, vanillin oak and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and sappy, with excellent mid-palate depth, lovely transparency, good acids and excellent focus and grip on the long, suavely-tannic finish. This is a beautiful bottle in the making and an absolutely classic vintage for the Chevillon Chaignots. 2020-2045+." 92+pts - John Gilman, View From the Cellar

2020 Chevillon Bourgogne Passetoutgrain
RRP: $97 | Pre-Arrival: $83
A blend of 2/3 Gamay and 1/3 Pinot Noir, this is sourced from nearly 50-year-old vines from 3 lieux-dits (single sites) around Nuits-Saint-Georges - Champs d'Argent, Croix Blanche, Petit Chaliot. The vineyards are on well-drained, stoney slopes in areas rich with limestone with marl/clay deposits which gives the wine real finesse and structure. There is no new oak used, but this wine is deep and high quality, with great silky structure and ripe berry fruit and spice nuances.
2020 Chevillon Bourgogne Rouge
RRP: $149 | Pre-Arrival: $125
The 0.8ha plot has a stony clay-limestone soil but drains very well. This is a beautifully generous, balanced and fresh, fruity red, with firm but balanced tannins that contribute to a very harmonious and high-class offering. This Burgundy comes from 50+ year old vines grown in the Northern part (or Vosne sector) of the Nuits-Saint-Georges commune.
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges VV
RRP: $265 | Pre-Arrival: $225
From 3.38 ha of well-drained, stony parcels located on the foothills of Nuits, on limestone, clay and marl. "Dark berry fruit coulis is laced with notes of earth and spice. The delicious middle weight flavors possess excellent punch before culminating in a sleek, intense and only mildly rustic finale. This is an excellent Nuits villages and very much worth your attention." 89-92pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Bousselots'
RRP: $365 | Pre-Arrival: $309
"Notes of cassis, smoky berry fruit, spices and rich soil tones introduce the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots, a medium to full-bodied, bright and concentrated wine that's a touch more structured and muscular than the Chaignots." 91-93pts - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Chaignots'
RRP: $396 | Pre-Arrival: $335
"A vague touch of wood is present on the ripe and exuberantly fresh aromas of poached plum, dark currant and anise. The sleeker and more mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension, all wrapped in a compact, firm and built-to-age finale. This is also excellent and stylistically, it is a mix of Nuits and Vosne." 91-93pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Roncieres'
RRP: $396 | Pre-Arrival: $335
"Pungent aromas of reduction and wood serve as a pungent introduction to the sleek, intense and velvet-textured middle weight flavors that are at once powerful yet refined before terminating in a strikingly long, balanced and complex finale. This youthfully austere effort is terrific and is potentially one of the best examples of this wine Chevillon has ever made." 92-94pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Perrieres'
RRP: $396 | Pre-Arrival: $335
"The 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières opens in the glass with aromas of wild berries, black cherries and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it combines elevated ripeness with vibrant acids, concluding with a long, intensely mineral finish." 92-94pts - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Pruliers'
RRP: $396 | Pre-Arrival: $335
"The 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers is showing especially well, soaring from the glass with notes of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, raw cocoa and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, bright and vibrant, with lively acids and a deep core of concentrated fruit, it's framed by ripe, powdery tannins and concludes with a long, penetrating finish." 92-94pts - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Cailles'
RRP: $549 | Pre-Arrival: $465
"Deep and seamless, the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles mingles aromas of cherry and berry fruit with hints of rose petals, orange rind, sweet spices and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, suave and velvety, with terrific concentration, fine tannins and lively acids, it's the most elegant wine in the range." 93-95pts! - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Vaucrains'
RRP: $549 | Pre-Arrival: $465
"A deft but still perceptible dollop of wood can be found on the ripe and very fresh nose of poached plum, black raspberry and plenty of sauvage nuances. The texture of the broad-shouldered flavors is also quite sleek with a relatively supple mid-palate that contrasts with the firm, youthfully austere and structured finale that displays huge length and ample minerality. This is also very much built to reward long-term cellaring and here too I would strongly suggest not touching a bottle for at least ten years. This is brilliant." 94-96pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound
2020 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Saint Georges'
RRP: $729 | Pre-Arrival: $615
"Black purple, the bouquet is very backward, but more importantly not at all cooked. Now the concentrated deep raspberry fruit starts to emerge, red rather than on the blacker side. Very succulent, a grand lush wine that is reserved at the moment, but this should develop into a stunner and may yet move into five star territory." 94-97pts, 5-star wine! - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
2021 Chevillon Bourgogne Passetoutgrain

2021 Chevillon Bourgogne Rouge
RRP: $149 | Pre-Arrival: $125
"Moderate reduction is sufficient to suppress the underlying fruit though there is both good freshness and verve to the rich, generously proportioned and solidly concentrated middleweight flavors that deliver much better depth and persistence than is typical for the genre plus it will age. This could easily pass for a villages Nuits." 87-89pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound

"Aromas of red berries, orange zest and rose petals introduce the 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, a medium-bodied, fleshy and perfumed wine with melting tannins and a saline finish. It's an especially charming, fragrant rendition of this perennially reliable cuvée." 89-91pts - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

2021 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Bousselots'
RRP: $365 | Pre-Arrival: $309
"Here a more restrained nose is aromatically similar to the Chaignots if not quite as spicy. There is more power and punch to the intensely saline-suffused middleweight flavors that also conclude in a moderately austere bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. Bousselots always requires at least mid-term cellaring to show its best and the 2021 version will be no exception. Recommended." 91-93pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound
2021 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Chaignots'
RRP: $396 | Pre-Arrival: $335
"As is usually the case, the expressive nose is quite spicy, indeed blind this could aromatically pass for a Vosne with its pretty plum, dark berry and exotic tea scents. The rich and quite generous yet refined and pure medium-bodied flavors exude a subtle minerality on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finale. Lovely and understated." 90-93pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound
2021 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Roncieres'
RRP: $396 | Pre-Arrival: $335
"An exuberantly fresh nose freely offers up a combination of various dark berries, newly turned earth and plenty of sauvage character. The rich, generous and punchy flavors possess a bit more volume on the tightly wound and impressively long finish. This overtly mineral-driven effort is a combination of refinement and focused power. Patience absolutely advised." 91-94pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound
2021 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Perrieres'
RRP: $396 | Pre-Arrival: $335
"The 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières is beautiful, unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, orange zest, peonies and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, bright and vibrant, it's a pure, precise, mineral wine that lives up to its climat's name." 91-93pts - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2021 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Pruliers'
RRP: $396 | Pre-Arrival: $335
"A full bright purple. I love this nose. On the lifted side of plums, nothing heavy here, and with a sumptuous raspberry seedless feel on the palate, the fruit runs easily, fluidly to the finish, fine tannins, no overt oakiness." 92-94pts - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
2021 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Cailles'
RRP: $549 | Pre-Arrival: $465
"Classic ruby color. As is often the case chez Chevillon, this is the most elegant wine in the range with its spicy, ultra-fresh and restrained nose that mixes both red and dark pinot fruit, violet and sandalwood. The equally restrained, cool and intense middleweight flavors are notably finer with superb detail and ample minerality on the moderately austere, balanced and strikingly lengthy finish that is shaped by fine-grained tannins. This is at once stylish and very classy." 92-95pts, Outstanding! - Allen Meadows, Burghound
2021 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Vaucrains'
RRP: $549 | Pre-Arrival: $465
"The deepest core in the purple colour and the sturdiest most upright bouquet. This is not about sensuality but there is a youthful majesty that is most appealing, a fresh finish, even a saline touch. Everything perfectly in place for a great bottle in the medium term, and maybe longer." 94-96pts, 5 star wine! - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
2021 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Saint Georges'
RRP: $729 | Pre-Arrival: $615
"Rich mid purple. There is a wealth of fruit evident on the nose, a dimension over and above Les Cailles. The richness of the fruit fills the mouth all the way to the back, a light coating of oak, a very good acid balance and a graceful finish." 93-95pts! - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
