PRE ARRIVAL: 2022 Willi Schaefer Riesling Mosel Graacher Trocken 750ml
Regular price $85.00 Sale price $78.00DUE JUNE 2026
A rare dry Schaefer Riesling, ‘the only one’, Christoph tells me. Crystalline and focused. Brilliant stony aromatics mingle with hints of ginger and beeswax. The palate is finely etched, with petrichor and flinty, crushed-slate mineral flavours backed by lemon zest. There is a great intensity – it has fresh saline and is upright, yet it has an oak-influenced roundness of character.' 94 pts - Clive Pursehouse, Decanter
'Lovely nose of lemon blossom and lemon curd. Lovely balance of restrained creaminess and bright acidity with intense wet stone minerality. Long light-footed finish with excellent balance. ' 93 pts - James Suckling
'Sourced predominantly in the Himmelreich and racked from the lees until March due to a slow fermentation of the dry and feinherb wines, the 2022 Graacher Riesling trocken opens with a clear, deep and flinty, still nicely reductive bouquet of ripe, aromatic and juicy yellow stone fruits. Bottled in late April, this is a round and elegant, mouth-filling, juicy and well-balanced Graacher with savory acidity and a stimulating, saline and citric finish.'
'The 2022s from Willi Schaefer... are once again uniquely delicately elegant, deep, juicy and lasting Rieslings, ' 93 pts - Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
No one makes more classic and traditional Mosel than Christophe and Andrea Schaefer. When you see the steep sites of Graach (Dromprobst and Himmelreich) just near the cellar and taste the wines from the traditional old 1000lt barrels, you get a sense of the greatness and timelessness that this small estate exudes.
These are rare dry wines made from grapes grown in both of these Grossen Lagen sites. Cheers, Randall
'No Riesling is brighter, finer, more heavenly or more incomprehensible and yet it stands with its feet in the slate that produces unmistakable wines of absolute world class...'
Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
