Purchased in 1968 and replanted in 1992, this 1ha parcel has a SE exposition with soil structure and composition as “Cote de Nuits”. It is 260-290 mt above sea level so has very cool nights during the ripening months and it is a wine with good “charpenté” or structure, and it can be a little closed when young. Of course, it still has fleshy richness and sweet opulent fruit.
This has a rich and inviting nose of dark cherries, raspberries and spice, balanced with herbal notes. On the palate, fine, firm tannins are beautifully woven through. For the 2023 David used 20% whole-bunch and 20% new oak because the fruit could carry the extra structure. The fruit shows its "high on the hill freshness and energy" well and the red fruit intensity and richness of the wine are impressive. I wanted to take the sample bottle home for dinner!
