The FG Batard is not usually as minerally as the Criots, but is richer and "fatter". For some reason this year the oak shows a little more here than the Criots (I guess the percentages of new oak are not always exactly the same as the wine volume changes each year and the barrels are fixed sizes. It has lovely tightness and drive.
"More smoky reduction on the nose and more obvious weight and power than the Blain-Gagnard Criots. A delicious grand cru with reserves of power, concentration and notes of intense, low-yielding fruit. Savoury and mineral, stony character to finish. Notable and memorable. Has a long future ahead. Classic top-tier white burgundy. 18.5/20 JR.
