2021 Josh Cooper Balgownie Old Vines Maiden Gully Cabernet 750Ml Bottle
Regular price $95.00From the old vines of Balgownie estate in Maiden Gully, Bendigo region, planted in 1969 on Ordovician shale, quartz and ironstone rubble. Joshua Cooper considers himself extremely fortunate to be able to purchase fruit from this property and is a long time collector of Balgownie wines. The fruit it entirely destemmed and partially foot stomped before being transferred to open fermenters, with some pumping and plunging once fermentation had kicked off. Finally it was basket pressed and sent to old and new barriques for 12 months with a small addition of sulphur at bottling.
“Deep, dark garnet. A wine which immediately makes one sit up and focus. Incredibly refined and complex with iron, sweet cassis, cedar spice, violet and rose, air reveals infinite nuance and detail. The palate is flooded with wave upon wave of Cabernet fruit, braced by a strict but not overbearing tannic structure, finishing with sweet violet and cassis. The most refined of the three Cabernet cuvees, but also the most concentrated and finally balanced. Please decant well prior to drinking, or cellar for as long as you like.” - Joshua Cooper
