PRE-ARRIVAL 2023 Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Vergers' 750ml Bottle

From a 0.71ha parcel of old vines planted in 1972. This is one of the best Vergers from FG that I have tasted as a young wine. It's very deep and dense, classy and long. This great 1er Cru is just 400mt SW of Montrachet itself.

'Smoky aromas of apple, pear, petrol and rosemary oil give way to gorgeously textured, caressing and decidedly punchy medium-bodied flavors that possess fine mid-palate density, all wrapped in a linger, balanced and bitter zest-inflected finish. Again, this could use better depth so at least a few years of patience should be helpful.'

'The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers ler Cru has a bright nose with yellow plum, white peach and light sea spray scents that opens beautifully in the glass. The palate is very well balanced and quite intense with a bit more body than other cuvées. It's a little honeyed toward the finish but the acidity keeps everything in check. This is a charming Chassagne.'
