2023 Gilbert Picq "Dessus La Carrière" 750ml
Regular price $85.00 Sale price $82.00'[..] It has an exquisite, beautifully defined and focused bouquet surfeit with minerals. The palate is very precise, poised, saline and tangy, with a dab of iodine toward the finish. The 2023 is excellent.' 91-93 points - Neal Martin, Vinous
'Pretty and nicely fresh aromas include those of just sliced pear and apple while displaying enough Chablis typicity to be convincing. The rich, generous and vibrant medium weight flavors already possess fine complexity as well as excellent length on the clean, moderately dry and balanced finale. This is a very fine villages and one that should both drink well young as well as repay mid-term keeping.' 90 points, Outstanding - Allen Meadows, Burghound
'Excellent intensity. A very fine finish, but that could be the little drop of residual sugar that’s left. Quality lees so should work. Drink from 2026-2032.' 89-91 Points and 4 Stars - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
'So tight and just what we want from Chablis!' Jancis Robinson
Dessus la Carrière sits directly above an old quarry, with vines planted into an almost continuous slab of Kimmeridgian limestone. Topsoil is so thin that parts of the vineyard remain bare, forcing roots deep into the rock and giving the wine its unmistakable mineral edge.
The site comprises two parcels planted in the 1970s — one clonal, one sélection massale — covering just under five acres. Always harvested first and bottled last, Dessus la Carrière delivers a village Chablis of exceptional tension, precision and limestone-driven intensity, consistently performing at a level more commonly associated with top premier cru sites.
