2022 Chateau du Clos Pouilly Fuisse 750Ml Bottle
Regular price $99.00"An excellent wine in its category and given the unicorn status of the fifth star, any producer receiving 4 stars for a wine should be extremely proud of their achievement. The straight Pouilly-Fuissé actually includes the oldest vines on the property, dating back to 1936 and 1939. Mid yellow with a green tint. Obviously generous on the nose. A solid weight of orchard fruit, perhaps without the elasticity of the best terroirs which have been classified as 1er cru, but very satisfying."
91 points and 4 stars - Jasper Morris
Of the 3ha clos with vines dating back to 1936 (the stone wall is still in existence) 0.75 ha is not classified as 1er Cru Pouilly, so it’s Pouilly Fuissé village, and a damn great one too. Frederic was so pleased with the ripeness and cleanliness of the fruit from the Clos’ wines in 2022 but he still chose to block the malos to keep more freshness and vitality in the wines. This is only 13.5% but the richness, lanolin and powerful fruit makes the weight like a Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, if not quite the class. Remember that Frederic crushes all the fruit before pressing, and this can only be successfully done with clean fruit, and this helps the wines with weight, depth of flavour, textural complexity and longevity.
