"The vines here lie beneath the Clos de Bèze, very different from the Mazoyères sold as Charmes. Some people prefer the Mazoyères - Not me! The Charmes is more refined, more fragrant, more slender but more energetic. This is the characteristic of this cuvée from tres veilles vignes, well placed and harvested very ripe. We consider this wine in top rung of (our) grand crus - but think it an injustice for this magnificent bottle to be drunk any-time other than between 8 to 20 years of age." - Dominique Laurent
"Bright, dark red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice and violet ... [and] chocolatey oak. Quite fine-grained, primary and penetrating, with its strong element of oak spices currently dominating its very dark flavors of berries, black cherry and violet and accentuating the wine's substantial tannins. But this grand cru also boasts excellent definition and energy for the vintage, not to mention plenty of lurking fruit sweetness. Finishes with rather powerful dusty tannins. This savory, primary wine should reward cellaring but it may require a decade of patience." 92+pts - Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com
