2017 Chateau Cissac Haut Medoc Cru Bourgeois MAGNUM
Regular price $154.00The juice is fermented in huge wooden vats but is then aged in 225-litre oak barrels, 40% of which are new. With the vineyard established on a bed of gravel over a limestone base, it is unsurprising to see such a predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon and the style of the wine mirrors this, as it is made in a classic Medoc style.
The 2019 Cissac offers up aromas of plums, currants, sweet soil tones and cigar box. Medium to full-bodied, bright and concentrated, it displays fine-grained but assertive tannins, tangy acids and fine length on the finish. More polished than the chewy, frequently austere Cissac wines of yesteryear, it will nevertheless require a bit of patience." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
The 2017 is a little lighter than these others, but if ever there was a benchmark / archetypal example of a “luncheon claret”, then this is it!
It is elegant, perfumed with cigar box, red berry, cassis liqueur, and sweet spice. The flavours are ripe and long, the structure fine-boned and wine is dynamic and pure. - Randall
"commendable Cissac that makes the most of the vintage." 90pts. - Vinous.com
“A tangy and fruity red with chocolate, berry and currant character. Some orange peel. Medium body and a solid core of fruit. Fresh finish. Nicely done for the vintage.” 90pts - Jamessuckling.com, JS and Neil Martin.
