MARK HAISMA
You may have heard the buzz about Mark Haisma, one of our own making their mark in Burgundy. This offer should not be missed; the 2023's are well priced for the hype and at the risk of being a bore, a reminder that 2024 Burgundy barely exists - there is just so little of it across the board in Burgundy.
Australian winemaker Mark Haisma built his reputation far from home. After a formative decade at Yarra Yering under Dr. Bailey Carrodus, he relocated in 2007 to Burgundy, where his small scale négociant project quickly drew attention for refined, terroir-driven wines. Expanding into the northern Rhône and later Romania (!), he combined curiosity with precision, making site-expressive bottlings from Bourgogne to Grand Cru level. Farming his own vineyards while mentoring emerging teams abroad, Haisma has earned acclaim for meticulous, characterful wines that balance Old World nuance with New World confidence, and a belief that wine should remain vibrant and accessible. The latter is reflected in his very fair pricing for Burgundy today.
Suckling on Haisma – “With his passion for elegant, terroir-expressive wines, he began crafting limited production, micronegociant Gevrey-Chambertin wines that quickly gained an ardent fanbase and have since developed a dedicated cult following.”
Jancis Robinson on Haisma – “He seems to have struck gold. His wines have an excellent balance between fruit, expression and refreshment without being in any way wimpish. The wines are also, appetizingly, bone dry. There is none of the sometimes slightly gratuitous sweetness to be found in some Pinots, especially New World ones."
