Owned by the Vialard family, this property has produced an impressively dense wine that also has fine fruits. Plenty of acidity sets the wine's course with freshness as well as structure, giving a firm aftertaste while never losing the liveliness. Drink from 2023.
The 2016 Cissac has an attractive, quite lively and vivacious bouquet with well defined blackberry and blueberry fruit, commendable mineralité and tension developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, crisp acidity, good grip in the mouth with a focused and quite long finish. This is an excellent contribution to the vintage from Château Cissac and it should be (fingers crossed) good value.

The juice is fermented in huge wooden vats but is then aged in 225-litre oak barrels, 40% of which are new. With the vineyard established on a bed of gravel over a limestone base, it is unsurprising to see such a predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon and the style of the wine mirrors this, as it is made in a classic Medoc style.
“An expressive and racy wine. 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot. The beautiful maturity of the different grape varieties as well as very selective harvests have oriented the vinification towards extractions controlled by low temperatures and long macerations. The wines are opulent, rich in well-coated, unctuous and greedy tannins, velvety... A haute couture vintage.” Cissac winemaking team.
"This is slightly darker and ripe, full and classic; a bit like the 2019 in style. It’s almost impossible not to love it’s dark, inky intensity with cassis and plum fruit silky but firm, ripe tannins and lovely persistence. This is a great Cissac that will give 10-15 years plus of great drinking pleasure." - Randall
"Aromas of blueberries, walnuts and rose petals follow through to a medium to full body, round and juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. A blend of 75 per cent cabernet sauvignon, 20 per cent merlot and five per cent petit verdot. Drink in 2022." 91pts - James Suckling
