Jülg Dorrenbach Erste Lage / 1er Cru Springberg Riesling Trocken 2021 $109 |Offer: $69

This is from southern Pfalz close to the French (Northern Alsatian) border. The vines are grown on east facing limestone slopes (only 30cm of topsoil) surrounded by the “cooling” Palatinate Forest. This combination gives low yields and small grapes that are highly aromatic with intense flavour. The fruit is partially crushed by foot, given a generous amount of skin-contact and then fermented and aged in mostly old barrels with a little steel . It has lemon, ripe apricot, fresh herb, sweet wax,  yeasty, doughy and rocky notes. It is deep, minerally, rich and concentrated, but it also shows the vitality and strength of the 2021 vintage. It can be broached now, but like all Jülg rieslings, this definitely shows ageing potential, but it has depth and richness making it attractive to drink now.

"Clear, delicately smoky citrus and stone-fruit nose with yeasty, herbal and floral aromas, minerality and a little dark berry fruit. Quite sweet, finely juicy fruit, lively acidity, some grip, herbal, yeasty and mineral tones, hints of smokiness, pronounced salinity, touches of orange blossom and a good to very good finish."

Peyre Rose: A Legendary "Unicorn" Estate and the Timeless Elegance of Marlene's

Some wine estates transcend their region to become true icons. Domaine Peyre Rose, nestled in the hills of the Languedoc near Saint-Pargoire, is undoubtedly one of them. Founded by Marlène Soria in the early 1980s, the estate has earned a cult following among wine lovers worldwide thanks to its uncompromising philosophy and remarkably distinctive wines, often released at over 10 years old!

A true pioneer, Marlène Soria left a successful career to pursue her passion for viticulture. Guided by intuition, patience, and an unwavering commitment to quality, she created wines that challenged conventions and redefined the potential of the Languedoc.

At Peyre Rose, nothing is rushed. The vineyards are farmed with meticulous care, yields are kept deliberately low, and the wines undergo extraordinarily long aging in tanks, barrels and bottle.before release.

The estate spans approximately 25 hectares of clay-limestone, sandstone and pebble-rich soils, planted to Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache.

The domaine, hacked out of uncompromising limestone garrigue in the late 1980s...(it has to generate its own electricity)...and the yields rarely exceed 20hl/ha. The wine, however, is exceptional. Les Cistes (85 per cent Syrah, 15 per cent Grenache) is usually fresher and more red fruity. The Cuvée Clos Léone (95 per cent Syrah, 5 per cent Mourvèdre) is more black fruity, roasted, gamey. I think these are some of the greatest wines to come out of the Languedoc, certainly some of the most original. - Clive Coates MW, Decanter

Now entering a beautiful stage of maturity, Belle Léone 2011/2014 and Marlene 2007/2011 showcases the rewards of patience. It is a wine that captures the rugged beauty of the Languedoc while displaying the finesse and longevity associated with the world’s finest wines.

Among Peyre Rose’s celebrated wines, Belle Léone 2014 stands as a remarkable expression of both place and vision. Fontodi Chianti Filetta di Lamole
Offer: $99

Notes of damp earth, iodine and sandalwood mingle with dark cherries and plums. Medium-bodied with lively acidity and polished yet firm, slightly chewy tannins. The finish is vibrant and tense, showing good fruit concentration and length.
James Suckling - 93 Points

"The 2022 Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is laced with wild cherry, white pepper, sage, mint and dried herbs. Here, the warm vintage was very much a plus for a wine that can be on the slender side because of the elevation at this site. Soft, silky and caressing, the Filetta is a star. It spent 18-20 months in cask, an approach that works so well here."
