2021 Julg Dorrenbacher Springberg Trocken 750Ml Bottle

This is from southern Pfalz close to the French (Northern Alsatian) border. The vines are grown on east facing limestone slopes (only 30cm of topsoil) surrounded by the “cooling” Palatinate Forest. This combination gives low yields and small grapes that are highly aromatic with intense flavour. The fruit is partially crushed by foot, given a generous amount of skin-contact and then fermented and aged in mostly old barrels with a little steel . It has lemon, ripe apricot, fresh herb, sweet wax,  yeasty, doughy and rocky notes. It is deep, minerally, rich and concentrated, but it also shows the vitality and strength of the 2021 vintage. It can be broached now, but like all Jülg rieslings, this definitely shows ageing potential, but it has depth and richness making it to drink now.
