2021 Grivault Pommard 1er Cru 'Clos Blanc' Rouge 750Ml Bottle

The last few vintages have seen the Bardet Family make an increasingly perfumed and elegant rendition of this white-soiled Pommard cru. So supple and elegant is this wine that on first sip I always think of Volnay, before richer and more classic Pommard elements of darker blue fruits, cherry liqueur, damp earth and violets come to the fore. The "Blanc" in the name refers to the soil more likely than the idea that there may have been chardonnay planted here in previous centuries.

The 2021 is a more perfumed rose and violet scented vintage, with ample tannins; after all it comes from adjacent to Les Grand Epenots, a very famous site. This is more a 15 year wine than the longer-ageing 2020, but a prettier red, not without impressive "stuffing".
