François Bertheau, who manages this 6.23 ha domaine (half of which is in villages-level vineyards), said in his typically understated laconic manner that 2024 "gave me my smallest harvest ever and I've been doing this for a very long time. My yields were off on average fully 60% though some parcels were even worse and some a bit better. It's ironic in its fashion that in 2023 the fermenters were so full that I had to carefully watch the temperatures to be sure that they didn't overheat due to the sheer volumes. However, in 2024 it was also necessary to watch the temperatures but in this case, to be sure that they weren't too low such that the fermentations stopped! I used no new wood during the élevage and the wines have surprisingly improved month by month. I think it's a vintage where the wines will drink well young as they're just so energetic and delicate that it won't be necessary to age them for an extended period first." Bertheau further noted that the 2024s would see about 20% new wood and reiterated that the wines are never fined or filtered.
Tasting note: This is aromatically similar to the 1er cuvée but with even more floral elements. The equally attractively and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension that carries over to the saline, lightly austere and balanced finale. Lovely and understated. Tasted: Jan 10, 2026

The Chambolle Charmes is a step-up, sensual, intense, and energetic fruit with very vivacious mid-palate. I always adore the Chambolle Charmes … what a treat. Love the defined minerality … wow … lovely silky feel.
