2015 Ziereisen 10^4 Jaspis Chasselas 750Ml Bottle
Regular price $396.00 Sale price $336.0011,000 Chasselas vines yield between 15 and 20 hl/ha. Nobody has ever taken Gutedel as seriously as that before.
A deep straw colour with the faintest hint of orange confirms the concentration. The fragrance is quite buttery with sweet highlights of vanilla and orange. The palate includes buttery and oaky elements as well as nuances of vanilla, orange and grapefruit, but despite all these sweet connotations the Jaspis Gutedel is essentially dry. Low acidity and a truly rich texture lead to a very generous expression, which has been compared by some to Montrachet, and it cannot be denied that the finish is lifted by a fascinating touch of stony minerality. Gutedel (noble taste) is the Badenese word for the grape Chasselas. This wine is wild, deep, characterful and delicious. The old vines (oldest planted in 1959) high density planting, limestone slopes, pitifully low yields, skin-contact and long lees ageing in barrels gives what is probably the best Chesselas in the world. It's a burgundy grand cru look-alike.
