3.5ha of the Respide-Medville estate is planted with whites on classic gravel (graves) atop clay/gravel. 50% semillon, 48% semillon and 2% muscadelle make up this super “under the radar” wine that is cropped at ONLY 2 tonnes/acre, hand-picked, and fermented in new 225lt barrels, then aged is the same for 6 months only. Only 1500 cases are made, so these vines are looked after like a show garden, and the wine is treated like a Grand Cru! This vintage walks the tightrope between herbal, vibrant and beautiful lemon and gooseberry nuances and also spice, hay and tropical nuances. It’s a real mouthful of diverging complex flavours, richness and fine acidity that all give the impression that a little ageing is warranted.
Situated slightly north of Langon in the south of Graves, the Château Respide-Médeville - whose vineyard dates back to the 18th century - was acquired by Christian Médeville in 1980. The Respide-Medville estate is 15 ha and has terrior of gravelly clay in an amphitheatre shaped site, sloping down towards the river. It’s planted with 60% cabernet and 40% merlot for the reds which see 100% barrel ageing except for the Dame which is ½ barrel and ½ vat maturation.
