2010 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco 750ml Bottle
Regular price $351.00 Sale price $319.00'Azelia's 2010 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is incredibly polished in this vintage. Dried roses, crushed berries, tobacco, mint and spices are woven together in a fabric of nearly indescribable class and elegance. The ferrous notes and massive tannins typical of this Barolo are nearly completely covered with layers of deeply expressive, perfumed nuances that captivate all the senses. This is a super-classic feeling Bricco Fiasco from Azelia. I never thought I would describe a Bricco Fiasco Barolo as seductive, but Azelia's 2010 is that, and a lot more.'
97 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
I have been enamoured with the Azelia wines since my first visit to the Scavino family's pristine cellars well over a decade ago. Luigi and his son Lorenzo are obsessive about obtaining only the most perfectly ripe bunches - this is the foundation of their impressive and honest wine making. Luigi only accepts grapes from vines over 35yo for Azelia Baroli. This admirable insistence is married perfectly to their sympathetic vinification (including a non-reliance on new/small-format oak) and their excellently sited holdings in the great crus - all reasons for extreme greatness. The plenitude of glowing and high scoring reviews below only offer a small snapshot of the enthusiasm that many critics share with myself for these wines. As they continue to age they will be cherished parts of any cellar.
Cheers, Randall
'One of the major goals of the modern school of Barolo was to make wines that were approachable young, but that could also age. In my opinion there are three producers who consistently achieved that goal at a high level; Luciano Sandrone, Elio Altare and Luigi Scavino of Azelia. Of these growers, Scavino is the least well known, and because of that, his wines remain favorably priced.' Antonio Galloni, Vinous
