2013 Joseph Roty Charmes-Chambertin 'Cuvee de Tres Vieilles Vignes'Regular price $1,170.00
"Very old vines" is somewhat of an understatement - the vines were planted in 1891!
"An elegant, pure and broad-ranging nose is composed of very fresh, cool and airy aromas of both red and dark currant, spice and earth scents where the wood treatment is notably less obvious though by no means invisible. There is a lovely mouth feel to the attractively intense and well-concentrated flavors that coat the palate with dry extract before culminating in a refined, well-balanced and beautifully persistent finish. 2013 is not an especially powerful vintage for this storied wine but I very much like the sense of proportion as it should enable this to be approachable after only a decade or so though note that it will likely require 15 to 18 years to fully resolve the supporting tannins." 92-94pts - Burghound
"With its creamy old-vines intesinty and inner-mouth tension, this wine made me shiver. Big, broad, dusty tannins will hold this grand cru for many years. A very strong performance..." 93+pts - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
