This plot near Fronsac is the site of an old Roman vineyard and the current vineyard of 70ha, is planted to 96% merlot and the balance franc and malbec; all with an impressive average age of 38 years. These grapes are low-cropped at 3 tonnes / acre (this seems to be a unintended common thread with these wines we have chosen to offer!) fermented in cement vats and then aged in a combination of large vats70% and small barrels 30%. It's a generous and ripe wine, plummy merlot with a little cassis and liquorice. The plump palate is kept in check with nice tannins and the wine has impressive length for this price.
