Readers may recognise this wine (in its 2018 incarnation) from our previous Bordeaux shipment, which impressed us so much that we are bringing it in a second time! This appellation was an 'insiders' choice until it jumped to fame when the Hebrard family, owners of Ch. Cheval Blanc, together with the Debourd family of Chateau l’Angélus jointly purchased the 40ha Chateau de Francs estate in the mid 80’s. This historic estate vineyards were refurbished and the winemaking philosophy, and facility enhanced. This is the Bordeaux region’s driest and sunniest appellation, which partially explains the depth, ripeness and richness of the Chateau de Francs wines that we have imported before. This deep, ripe and dense 2018 wine is a beauty! The vinification is now very traditional and the wine is a blend of 70-90% merlot depending on the vintage, with the balance cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon, is fermented in steel tanks, then aged in barrels and steel. The wine is deep and inky coloured, quite ripe with traditional cigar box, plum and cassis aromas, nice firm solid structure. Lovely weight, liberal fruit and quite a long and lavish finish making this an amazing value red. This can certainly be cellared for 10 or more years if that is your want.
