Sorrenberg sits just beyond Beechworth, tucked beside Stony Creek and framed by forest. Owned and run by Barry and Jan Morey, the estate carries a remarkable 500-year lineage of family winemaking that traces back to the Mosel. Barry’s grandfather, Jacob Barzen, emigrated to Australia to work at the family’s vineyard and winery in Dookie, and the name Sorrenberg itself honours a small Barzen-family holding near the village of Reil on the Mosel.

The Moreys have farmed the site sustainably from the beginning and have been Demeter-certified since 2008. Vines were planted in 1985, with the first vintage following in 1989, and all production remains onsite. Their approach favours traditional methods—most notably fermenting in French barriques.
