2023 Bass Phillip Reserve Pinot Noir 750Ml Bottle
Regular price $985.0098 points - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion There have been many great vintages of the Reserve but I can’t remember one having such clarity and precision, matched to a brightness of fruit. So, for me, the finest to date. What’s also pleasing is the clear delineation from the estate up to this, the flagship. It commands your attention yet it’s also welcoming and open knit. There’s a lot to unpack yet the package is complete; very spicy, with florals and sweet fruit, cedar, menthol, black cherries and kirsch. It ebbs and flows with aromas and flavours and filagree tannins (lots of them) with fine acidity all slinking across the fuller-bodied palate. There’s a suppleness that off-sets its latent power. Wow, what a wine! Unequivocally the benchmark.
98 Points! - Huon Hooke, the Real Review A complex wine that evolves in the glass to reveal its multi layered personality. Oak plays a significant part in a respectful way, but the quality of the fruit reveals itself with time to become a bouquet of deep black cherry with notes of wood spice, cocoa, vanilla and nascent sweet compost. A silky, fine palate, still tightly wound with great depth and length of flavour. With time the palate will mollify and the flavours lengthen to provide a delicious treat.
"Deep-ish ruby with good purple rim and a discreetly foresty, complex bouquet enshrining dried herbs, forest underbrush, some earthy savoury notes. There's dark cherry to plum with hints of fivespice similar to the Premium bottling. The palate is deep and well structured, concentrated and driving. The tannins are insistent and firm, well balanced with the weight and power of the fruit. A majestic wine that will blossom if given more time in bottle. Tremendous length, a lovely deep-set core of sweet fruit, and a satisfyingly climactic finish."
